Drawing file is not valid

I get an error message (Drawing file is not valid) when I try to open Autocad 2004LT .dwg file. The file is 573 Kb. There's obviously some information in the file which I can't read. What can I do to view this file?

Thanks,
Frank

Try insert it as a block into a working dwg. But, the error message does not sound good. This is the error you get if you try to open a non-dwg file that have been renamed to dwg. Open it in Notepad and check rhe first 6 characters. It should look something like this: AC1018 The numbers can be different due to the version of LT that created the file. Hi Conny,

Thanks for your quick response. I opened the file with Notepad and it specified that "this file must be converted with BinHex 4.0." It was followed with lots of odd characters. I went on the internet to try to find BinHex 4.0, without success, so far. Can you help?

Thanks,
Frank

If RECOVER command can't open it, and INSERTing the file into another can't open it, time to look for a backup copy on your backup system or disks or tape, or the BAK extension, or even an SV$ extension file, to recover. If you have access to a 3rd party CAD program that can open DWG files, it might recover it too. -- Dean Saadallah Add-on products for LT http://www.pendean.com/lt --

Preview means nothing: it's simply a hidden image snapshot what the
file worked fine, it is NOT and NEVER is an indication of the actual
status of your file.

If nothing works, the file is dead. Sorry. Try posting it here for
others to try if you want.

Try my last two suggestions: you're still messing only inside the
problem file.

Also make sure the files are not from ADT, if they are, your architect
needs to export them for you down to 2D.

BinHex is an ecoding format and might be opened, or un-encoded uising the likes of Winzip. In the WinZip Open Dialog, under file types at the bottom, chose "Encoded" files, which include such types as *.b64 and *.bhx (binhex). You *might* have to rename the file to change the extension to .bhx.

.... OR! I could be all wrong
