*distance - distance

I am sure there is a simple explanation - but it is beyond me!

For years I have edited my aclt.pgp file to have the shortcut for *DISTANCE
as ds.

This morning I received a drawing package from an engineer who uses an add
on program with autocad to somehow convert his drawings to scale in model
space????

When I tried to establish what was happening I used the ds command to
measure something and got 'distance = 0 (read only)' which would seem to
indicate that I was invoking the system variable rather than the distance
command.

I tried typing 'dist' instead of 'ds' and lo and behold the distance command
worked and allowed me to measure the distance. When I tried 'ds' again I got
'distance = 150 (read only)' - this being the stored distance of the
measurement I took with the 'dist' command - (I assume).

I checked my aclt.pgp file and sure enough the shortcut for *DISTANCE is
still 'ds' and there is no 'dist' shortcut anywhere at all.

I find now that the shortcut 'ds' does not work on any drawings.
I have opened the original engineer's drawing on two other identical
computers, which have the same aclt.pgp file as mine and they work fine.

I did a system restore to go back to several days before I opened the
Engineer's drawing and this had no effect.

Any explanation / help would be much appreciated - I want my shortcut back.

The command is DIST: nothing else, look it up in HELP. Always has been,
still is three versions later.

There is a DISTANCE variable that reports only the last findings of the
command DIST and is read-only in nature.

I'm not sure an add-on you don't have that was used by an outside vendor
triggered this, perhaps these files are just ignoring your PGP setup somehow
by accessing another file.

No amount of system changes will change AutoCAD commands or variables.
Sorry.
Perhaps your PGP file also defines DIST, or something.

Try typing in ALIASEDIT and ensure there are no duplicate aliases.
Sometimes D is assigned to DIMSTYLE. Either change it or delete it.
Change DIST to D and delete the DI = DIST entry.
Close the window.
Now make sure the acad.pgp file says
D,*DIST (not D,*DISTANCE).
Restart autocad and it should work. Hope this helps!

Does a REINIT work (before PGP edits and an LT restart)?

There is no ALIASEDIT in LT.
