Difficulty opening previous dwg PC files in new Autocad Lt 2013 Mac

Hello - looking for a solution.  When I open previous Autocad PC files in my new mac - I get the beachball and "not responding"  upon opening the file.  I can open the file, but am unable to manipulate.  Does anyone out there know the solution?  Thank you!

Where do these previous files come from?

Does MAC have the option to Recover a file?
