Customizaion File I/O Error

I was creating new pull-down menus using the CUI.
After creating several new pull-downs and sub-menus in each I received this message.

" The customization file you are attempting to open is invalid. Select a different customization file and try again"

I lost all my pull-downs and toolbars.
Is there a backup of these files somewhere to resurrect them?

All that is left for pull down munes are - File, Window and Help

Thank you for any help,
Tony V

Look for the Transfer Tab at the top of the CUI and scroll to your Support file. Hopefully there is a CUI bak file that will have your info in it.

Under the transfer tab, when selecing the files fly-out, only lists cuix files.
Should there also be back-up files listed here?

Also under the "customize" tab, in the "Customziation in all Files" box, when clicking on items such as Menu, Toolbars, Ribbon....etc. there are no items under them.

On the "workspace content"s page side of the "customize" tab when Selecting "Toolbars" or "Menus" all of the new menus and toolbars say "UNRESOLVED"

Thank you for any help.

Did you navigate to the Support folder where the CUI files are kept? I have a couple of cui.bak files in my Support folder but I really do not know how they are created. (I'm assuming LT does this when you make a change. Dean will know.)
I wonder if LT is not picking up the Support folder when started? Have you closed and reopened LT? Did you move the Support folder for some reason?

Haven't moved he support folder.

When looking in the Support folder only one CUI file shows up (AutodeskSeekPlaceholder.cui), I think I remember seeing the acadlt.cui file there before (mabey not).

This is a fresh load of AutoCAD LT. wondering if it would be better to re-install from scratch, and start over?

When using the CUI, I was creating custom commands, and adding them to new pull-down menus from the left side pane of the "customize" tab.

It looks like I was creating new menus under the main ACADLT tree structure.
Do I need to select my new workspace and bring the new menus to the right side pane (workspace contents) then click done?

Thanks you for your input Charles

Are there good tutorials explaining the proper way to do this?

>>>...I was creating new pull-down menus using the CUI...<<<
Your CUIx file got corrupt, it happens: you need to restore the default menu
file (unless you manually backed up your customization somewhere else). The
file extension is CUIx, the core file is called ACADLT.CUIx.

Do a *.cui search of your hardrive for the cui files. They should be somewhere on the drive.
If you do not have any customizations at this point then a repair install may be in order. It reads as though you are adding commands correctly. It truly is not complicated as you can drag and drop just about everything.
I've taken Autocad installed menus, copied them to my partial cui file at the bottom of the tree, renamed it and then did what I wanted to it. Quick and easy.

I am now going to back-up my cuix files every few minutes.

I have completed a repair.

The only menus across the top now are "File", "Window" and "Help".

The other Acad menus are not there.......Draw, edit,.......etc.

Where can I find those? should they be in the CUI?

Thanks again

All should be in the CUI.
The attached is an LT08 Support folder path. Nothing there?
If there is then open your CUI on the left side of the panel and the ACADLT.CUI on the right side to pull items across

Even when I select an alternate workspace the only pull-downs are file, window and help.

In the support folder there is only 2 cuix files, the one I created and autocadseek? (not in front of my workstation).
There is no autocadlt.cuix file. should there be?

I did do a repair.

Thanks again.

What "support" folder? Your current screen menu default location, and most
of content assigned to you, is buried under your Windows Profile, not the
program folder. Extra copies of the core items are found in the User Data
Cache>Support folder under the program folder.

OPTIONS command>Files Tab>Customizations>Customization File... lists where
your current AutoCAD session is looking for a CUIx file. Make sure they are
one and the same.

Go to support.autodesk.com and search the Knowledge Base area, there used to
be a limited menu problem similar to yours that required more than a menu
reload, perhaps you've got that going on.

Thank you for bearing with me Dean.

Using the OPTIONS command>Files tab>Customizations>Customization Files....
I did find the acadlt.CUIx file in.... C:\users\dean\appdata\roaming\autodesk\autocad lt 2010\r15\enu\support
(Dean is also the name of my friends computer that I am working on for him)

Is this also where I should find the New workspace I created?

How do I find or get the standard pull-down menus (draw, edit, etc.....) back onto the top of the screen? All that there is now is File, Window and Help.

Is there a limit (other than running off the screen) as to how many Pull-down menus I can create?

Also.....
Should I create custom commands using the Customize user interface?

In the COMMAND LIST pane, selecting the STAR with the orange asterik next to it.

Which creates a new command "Command 1"

Rename it to a new command name (Door 1-6) using the INSERT command

Create all my new commands that way, then create new menus and sub-menus, adding the new commands to those.

Then select the new workspace I created, which brings it up on the right side of screen (workspace contents).

Select CUSTOMIZE WORKSPACE.

Then check all the new menus that I created and want to add to the new workspace

Then click DONE

He likes to have blocks he uses regularly in pull-down menus.

Thank You Dean for all your help.

Old 2006 CUI video tutorials that still explain the basics of CUI usage:
http://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2005/05/autocad_2006_tu.html

Unless you have other problems, which pulldowns show or hide are set in
Workspaces, which is now in CUI's pop-up and stored inside your CUIx file
(you have not access to CUIx files outside of AutoCAD's CUI command).

Yes, there is a limit on pulldowns, I think it is 20 (I never have more than
15). Does your user truly find Toolpalettes impractical?

How cool..........

Looks like Palettes are the way to go.

As I said, the last version of autocad I worked extesively is was R14.

Autocad has really come along way!

Incase of another corrupt CUIX file, what files should I back-up on a regular basis while in development?

Thanks again, from a rusty AutoCAD user?

Your CUIx file is the one to back up regularly.
