cannot edit mtext

Hello,

All of a sudden I cannot edit mtext on in my drawing. Yesterday I could click on a previously generated mtext object and the mtext dialogue box with ribbon etc. would apear and allow editing. However today when I click on the same mtext object, it will indicate the column and height arrows around the text but not dialogue box. Can't even highlight to edit. I do not think I changed any variables.

MTEXTED is set to null

MTEXTTOOLBAR is set to 1

Just to add to my last post, I cannot edit any text by clicking on it. I can edit through the Change Properties dialogue but very tedious.
This is very puzzling to me.

Ah ha! DBLCLKEDIT was set to off. I think I have it.
