Cannot Copy objects from one file to another

I am trying to copy some information from one file to another to avoid "redrawing" identical information. I have tried copying, copy w/ basepoint and cutting the information, but whenever i try to paste the information into the other file i get "_pasteclip" in the dialogue box and the objects do not appear. I am copying the file from a dwg file so i do not understand why its adding the clip, i have done this thousands of times before with no problem. Help!

Something probably got redefined. How are you pasting? Control+V? Right
click menu? Edit Menu?

Test by copy/pasting in he same file first

copy a smaller area then paste if the above works

try a different smaller area if the above works

Try WBLOCK (to create a new file from the source file) and INSERT (new file
into destination file) commands too as alternatives to all the above.

If it still does not work, your source file contains a vertical object you
have no access to: you could try exporting the source file to R12DXF then
importing the Dxf into the destination file.
