Can't delete text style.

I'm finally trying to produce a clean template to start my office standard over; old drawings have years of style, font, and layer debris. When all thru there is ONE text style "L20015" which uses simplex.shx font (the only non-TrueType remaining in my setup) that I can't delete; produces "Style in use, can't be deleted" error msg. I have searched everywhere I know including dimension and other options and just can't id any use of this style. Quick Select returns "0 found" result.
Any suggestion how I can kill this vampire style that just won't die?

Rename it to something you would use, and redefine it's
settings.

Now that's a WORK AROUND that makes sense (thunk to own head).
Thanks Dean.

Most of the drawings in the cad department are getting infected with "ghost styles" that can't be deleted. When these drawings get inserted into new projects, the same infection happens. You go and try and delete them but nothing happens.

I am left with cad techs saying that the only way to keep the drawings clean is to ncopy details, notes, etc. which takes forever.

I am in desperate need of a remedy to this problem. Hoping to find some answers.

Virus? or DGN linetypes that bring in custom shx fonts with them?

Post a DWG with such a problem, let's all have a look.

Well, since the originator of this email thread hasn't provided a problem drawing, I'll upload one with the same issue. I have the same problem with not being able to purge text styles. The file itself only has a circle object in modelspace. Also, when I look at the PURGE dialog and set it to view items you cannot purge, I see many, many objects that won't purge.

Thanks and I look forward to your comments.

Your file contains:
DGN Linetypes Purged : 558
DGN Complex Linetypes Purged : 5210
DGN Text Styles Purged : 31
Registry Applications Purged : 2
Annotation Scales Purged : 15
ObjectDBX Classes: 1

Sadly you can't clean that stuff out with LT, you need full AutoCAD and extra tools to do it (LT2015 does a slightly better job of purging but not with your file).

Wow, I can't explain how all that stuff got in there. The file was just a little north arrow. Ok, thanks for looking at the file. I'll try over at the full blown AutoCAD forum for help.

Hi there,

The drawing looks like has been inserted/binded with 3 other drawings, that's why have 41 text style, 1083 Blocks, 638 Linetypes in total.

And the possible reason for blocks cannot be deleted/purged if:

-it is nested inside another block.

-it is inserted in the drawing.

-it is attached xref drawing.

And the possible reason for linetype cannot be deleted/purged if:

-it is assigned to a layer.

-it is used in the drawing.

And the possible reason for Text cannot be deleted/purged if:

-it is the default text style.

-it is current text style.

-it is used by text in the drawing.(e.g. blocks)

-it is used by a dimenion style

So, i suggest the easy way is open a new/simple/2d drawing, and copy the object over.

Hope it helps. - Jennifer

Hi Pendean

Could you please advice which command you have using for purge those items?

Many thanks

Message 11 of 12

I guess DWG-PURGE,

not a native AutoCAD command and not available for LT Versions.

https://apps.autodesk.com/ACD/de/Detail/Index?id=3773138176974634673&appLang=en&os=Win32_64

But you can use command

-PURGE RegApp

and

PURGE All (incl. orphaned data!)

multiple times, if needed.

Anno scales:

SCALELISTEDIT, select all and delete..  or command -scalelistedit delete *

You will need full AutoCAD plus 3rd party add-ons, LT (even 2024 with LISP) is not enough based on testing here.
