can't attatch X-ref

I get the error message *invalid* when I attempt to add xrefs. The files exist, I've added them to other drawings before. I created the drawing I'm adding the xrefs to by cutting and pasting from a prior drawing, is this why I can't add x-refs? Is there anything I can do short of staring the drawing over to add xrefs?

Try to run AUDIT (and answer yes to fix errors) and
PURGE>ALL and couple of times in your current drawing file
first;

make sure all your files are the same version of
AutoCAD;

make sure you have access to the Xref files (they are not
locked or being used by others when you Xref).

AUDIT shows no errors. PURGE won't let me purge anything. The files exist, nobody else is using them, they are not attached to any other drawings. Now what?

The only other limitations are the Xref files, and your
current file have to have different file names (they cannot be all called
MYDRAWING.DWG for example).

GO into your file, type XREFCTL and set it to one. This sets
the Xref log file on. Now try to Xref again, and post the results of the
generated XLG file here for all to see, as well as samples of all you files in
customer files discussion area.

BTW, all your files are the same version of AutoCAD, correct?
And you are only XREFing DWG files And you are using the XREF
command?

Yes, these are all Auctocad LT2000 dwgs, they all have different names and I am using the xref command as I have used it numerous times before.

This is what I get in the xref log file:

**ERROR: "lattice10deg" is already a standard block in the current drawing.

Near as I can tell, its not. When I go into xref manager, no files are listed. I've tried PURGE again to purge any blocks, but am unable to (neither the "purge" or "purge all" selections are activated)

I will try to post my drawings in customer files now.

Either rename your external file something other than
lattice10deg.dwg, or use the RENAME command and rename the block of the same
name in your current file to something else other than
lattice10deg.

Like the error says... 😉
