I have a "Corner Fireplace" Block that was in my DWG #3, I added text to it in that dwg (36" Gas fireplace), rewrote (redefined) it over the existing block for the future. Looked correct and funtioned correctly as I drag it from my tool palette or dwg file. All my blocks were created in Layer 0 but the fireplace may have been in another (Mechanical layer) when I edited it. I can't remember!
Problem: Now when I go to DWG #1 or DWG #2 to get it from my tool palette or dwg file is doesn't have the new text. I compared all 3 by having them tiled vertically but to no avail.
What is my fix Pendean???

Explode or erase, then purge
-or-
Rename the existing block
-or-
Or if you are essentially just replacing the existing block definition with the new one, then do this:
Command: -insert
Enter block name or [?]: cornerfireplace=c:\temp\cornerfireplace
(the syntax here is "existing blockname = filename and optionally path")
Block "cornerfireplace" already exists. Redefine it? [Yes/No] <N>: Y
Block "cornerfireplace" redefined
