Binding xref that is nested in overlay

I have drawing 1 xrefed into two drawings (A & B). I have drawing B overlaid into drawing A. I cannot bind 1 in A because it also exists in drawing B, even though drawing B is overlaid. Other than overlaying 1 in both A & B, is there a way to accomplish this?

start binding at the bottom and work your way up.
B then A
