Autocad LT 2014 completely broken after SP1 install

Hi all,

I have had Autocad LT 2014 installed and working on my laptop for over a year. Survived through a Windows 8 - 8.1 upgrade no problems. Installed Autocad service pack 1 a few days ago and the application no longer starts. I get a flicker of the splash screen and then straight to the "Autocad has stopped woking" Windows dialog followed by the submit a crash report. I have trawled through the forums removed C++ redistributables, uninstalled and reinstalled the application with and without the SP. Tried trial versions, removed registry entries. Eventvwr reprts an error with AdApplicationFrame.dll. I have tried compatability mode, run as administrator (both application and reinstallation). Rebooted and updated everything I can think of... even removed a few things that looked at me sideways.

I have worked through all the steps in the pages around here and be stuffed if I am going to rebuild my computer from the ground up because a $2k piece of software can't get all its ducks in a row and can't even be bothered to report a useful error report.

I am running an Acer Aspire M with  GT640M (dual with Intel graphics), and yes not certified, but again worked for a year until the SP1 attempted install ruined everything.

Any help, guidance or condolances appreciated.

Jarrad

FYI: "Application has stopped working" is the nice way of saying "has crashed". The OS notices when the app unintentionally does things which are impossible. If the app cannot recover when such an attempt is caught (it doesn't provide a suitable "exception handler"), then the inevitable result is an outright crash.

- Windows System Restore back to a week or month it all worked not an option?
- Reset AutoCAD Settings as follows: http://upandready.typepad.com/up_and_ready/2012/07/the-easiest-way-to-reset-autocad.html
- Uninstall the latest service pack.
- If the issue persist, please create a new local user account onto the computer and give it administrator permissions then log into the computer with newly created test account and see if AutoCAD launches properly under this user account as well.
- If AutoCAD also crashes under the test user account, you will need to do a complete uninstall and re-install following these instructions: http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS45252 (reinstall for XP/Vista users: http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS75218)
- Be aware of the following issue with the 2014 software only: http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS21825687
- More complete .NET fix may be necessary ahead of the uninstall/reinstall process: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installation-Licensing/NET-Framework-Cleanup-Tool-for-Unhandled-Except...

Download 2010 through 2015 software if you need it:

Dean,

Thanks for the reply... restore not an option as I had them off <lesson learnt there>...

I have been through all of the other suggestions prior to posting.

The .NET Framework cleanup tool only works up to .NET 4, Windows 8 and 8.1 come default with 4.5 and 4.5.1 installed and unable to be removed so the cleanup tool is not an option for Windows 8+ Also that tool was written circa 2011, predating Windows 8 by a little bit so I would offer caution running it on those systems regardless.

WMIC can get my BIOS serial number fine so it is not the 2014 specific issue.

Event viewer identifies an unhandled exception in AdApplicationFrame.dll, specifically an exception code of 0xc000041d. Given that the dll is an Autodesk one there is not much info out there regarding specifics of that code.

I haven't tried installing 2015 trial, not sure if that may help but at this stage for a couple of hours download it may be worth it.

Cheers

Jarrad
