AutoCAD LT 2011 - Crash on Faulting application acadlt.exe

I just installed AutoCAD 2011 LT and every time I exit the program it crashes with a popup window that says:

AUTOCAD LT APPLICATION
AutoCAD LT application has encounter a problem and needs to close.

I get three different Windows error reports in the Application log:

First:  Faulting application WSCommCntr2.exe, version 3.0.269.0, time stamp 0x4c0c8ae0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e0421d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000000000002592a, process id 0xe4c, application start time 0x01cba7dda1131848.

Second:

Fault bucket 18090404, type 4
Event Name: APPCRASH
Response: None
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: WSCommCntr2.exe
P2: 3.0.269.0
P3: 4c0c8ae0
P4: ntdll.dll
P5: 6.0.6002.18005
P6: 49e0421d
P7: c0000005
P8: 000000000002592a
P9:
P10:

Third: Faulting application acadlt.exe, version 24.1.115.0, time stamp 0x4c60f21a, faulting module acadlt.exe, version 24.1.115.0, time stamp 0x4c60f21a, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000000000013523a, process id 0x5b8, application start time 0x01cba7dd7be6c641.

I am running Vista x64 on an Athlon 64 X2 processor with 4GB ram.

Other posters seem to have had similar problems with AutoCAD LT 2010 on Windows 7 64-bit:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-LT/AutoCad-LT-2010-crashing-with-Win-7-64bit/m-p/2730193

But their solutions have not worked.  I have tried:

Repairing and reinstalling AutoCAD

Applying the recent AutoCAD LT 2011 Update 1.1

Disabling anti-virus

Uninstalling all HP drivers

It is absurd that this product does not work out of the box and I am very disappointed that I need to be debugging this.  Does anybody have any idea what the real problem is and how I (or Autodesk) can solve it?

Drastic measures here and since two of your crash reports say Comm Center:

Turn Off Comm Center

Has worked weel for me in LT 2008. (This seems to be a long term hiccup.)

The LT 2011 (Trial) Install that I have lists the Comm Center as WSCommCntrAcCon. LOADCTRLS is set to 0 in my registry and I have to assume I did this when testing the software.

Thanks for the advice, Charles.  Unfortunately, that didn't seem to work.  I set:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Autodesk/AutoCAD LT/R16/ACADLT-9001:409/InfoCenter/InfoCenterOn = 0

I restarted AutoCAD, and can work as before.  But when I quit, I get the same popup window telling me that AutoCAD has crashed.  The only difference is that, with InfoCenter off, I get 2 errors in the log instead of 3.  I still get the Fault bucket type 4 APPCRASH information report, and the Faulting application acadlt.exe error report.

Alas.  Any other ideas?

Two freeware apps may help:

- REVO UNINSTALLER has an aggressive removal feature (bottom of the list it will present when you select LT to uninstall), use it then select and delete all entries it offers to remove. Repeat for anything else you installed with LT (LT patches, dwf viewer, and so on).

- CCLEANER has a cleaner feature, use it's defaults to remove everything offered. It also has a registry cleaner, go with the default settings and remove everything offered.

- Follow Autodesk recommended uninstall and reinstall procedures to seek out and remove anything missed by the above two:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=10243968&linkID=9240617

Restart Windows: install and avoid any "migration" options. Do not add or bring in any customizations salvaged from the earlier install or a preview LT seat just yet. Now start LT, open a file, work in it, save, close the app and try to recreate the crash.

If your crash was Autodesk created, the above reset everything for it to be neutral. If the crash still happens, something in your system is a contributing factor (your issue would be discussed here all the time, not just found in a few topics for LT2010 users). Explore the topic of graphics cards at the top of this forum, and also explore starting your Windows in SAFE MODE to recreate the problem and see if it still happens (safe mode removes all drivers, only Windows Vista will be running everything).

Always, ALWAYS, repost in full error messages you get when seeking remote assistance (telling everyone you got two out of three back when two of the three you first posted should not even come up was not helpful).

Hope it works better, post back if not (with details): you have a lot of things to try above first, please do not skip anything.

HKCU - HKey _Current _User

HKLM - HKey_Local_Machine

The link fix wants you to go to the Local_Machine not the Current_User.

Since the OP can start and use AutoCAD, can they not just turn it off inside AutoCAD?

I should think but I remember reading that that was not solving the issue some years ago hence Owen's solution.

Funny thing is when I searched Google for this one of the pages that popped up showed that I had been there before (its been quite a while).

Thanks again to everybody for the help.  Unfortunately I am still getting the errors.  A few things:

My videocard is an ATI Radeon X1300/1500 series with the latest driver.  It is not "certified," but it is recommended and supported on Vista SP2 x64:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/hc?siteID=123112&id=6711853&linkID=9240618&is_results=1&card_se...

Charles, there is no HKLM entry for InfoCenter on LT 2011, and changing the HKCU entry above succeeded in disabling the info center.  But I was still getting the errors.  They full error messages (with info center disabled) are:

Faulting application acadlt.exe, version 24.1.115.0, time stamp 0x4c60f21a, faulting module acadlt.exe, version 24.1.115.0, time stamp 0x4c60f21a, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000000000013523a, process id 0xd78, application start time 0x01cba829efbb0380.

And:

Fault bucket 20957000, type 4
Event Name: APPCRASH
Response: None
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: acadlt.exe
P2: 24.1.115.0
P3: 4c60f21a
P4: acadlt.exe
P5: 24.1.115.0
P6: 4c60f21a
P7: c0000005
P8: 000000000013523a
P9:
P10:

Pendean, I tried your advice of starting in Safe Mode.  That made matters worse.  Autodesk repeatedly crashed before launching, without even leaving an error message.  I'm not sure what that's about.  I don't think an "aggressive" uninstall would solve my problem.  This installation of AutoCAD LT 2011 is the first and only installation of any Autodesk product on this machine.

In sum, I am stumped and very frustrated, having spent many hours trying to track down a bug in the software as installed out of the box.  Is there somebody from Autodesk who can explain what is going on?

Re-read my earlier post. It is listed as WSCommCtr... in the 2011 Registry Entry.

The first pic is the upper portion of the Registry Tree

The second is the WSComm branch lower in the order near the bottom

As Dean said earlier this may make no difference and can be done form the program but we don't know since we don't know that you have gotten the right key yet.
