AutoCAD LT 2002 crashes win98

I got LT 2002 and a new machine with XP Athlon 2000 running Windows 98. I can install and run some software such as MS Office 2000 but when I install AutoCAD LT 2002 at the end of installation reports corruption of the Windows Registry, reboots couple of times till comes back again. It may or may not allow me to use it and then crashes again, sometimes mouse pointer is running on the screen without control. Anybody could help?

Win98? Is it too late to get a more reliable OS like Win2000 or WinXPPro?

In a non-networked enviroment is WinXPPro much of an advantage over XPHome?

Except for security, how is XPHome hobbled?

Security is important to me. So is full networking ability in an
office environment.
Even Microsoft recommends Pro over Home:
