Autocad is not responding

We are using Autocad 2010 with Windows 7 pro, We are using a Designjet 500 Plotter. I can send a plot to the plotter and it plots fine, but then when we go to do anything else with autocad a window comes up saying that Autocad is not responding and will have to close. Help!
