Attribute extraction

When trying to extract attributes, I do everything that should work,
selecting the blocka dn attributes, using the correct template file etc, but
when I press 'OK' it tells me I have 0 records in the extract file and the
output file is just a blank text document. I'm a bit confused by this...

Post the block along with the template file so we can test it.

Ian,
Do you mind pasting your template file on the board. I recently had problems with attribute extraction and I think i've sussed the problem, so maybe I can help out. The problem almost always lies in the template file.

here is my template file attached - i got it out of
a book (autocadLt in easy steps). It was working ok yesterday with another
drawing, but doesn't want to play fairly today!

Cheers for your help in advance.

Ian,
Sorry to be a pain, i'm reading this board from a web browser so I cant get access to the file, but from what you've just said i think I know what the problem is. If you look at the names of the attributes in yesterday's drawing they must match up to the attributes you want to extract today. Say the blocks you were using yesterday had an attribute called "name" your template file will probably contain a field that reads like this - name C016000 -. If you want to use the same template file for a new drawing, the drawing must contain a block with the attribute "name" in it.

Cheers,
Matthew

P.S. I'm I right in assuming your in the UK, cause only us would be up at this time of day!

As a side note (as I remember), the template file is sensitive to
carriage returns. As I remember you shouldn't press enter after the
last line in the file. Of course it's been years since I uses them.

Thanks for your help, but still no luck. my template file does have the
sttribute name on it - i'll show you what it is:
BL:NAME C006000
BL:NUMBER N002000
PRICE N002000

I haven't used a carriage return after the last line so that cant be the
problem.
See if this info helps.

Ian,
I'm stumped... if the blocks in both drawings are the same the extraction should work. The only thing I can think of is maybe the attributes in your new drawing contain characters other then numbers, if you have a symbol like $ or £ in the price it wont work unless you change the field in your template file "PRICE N002000" to "PRICE C002000". This allows your input to be numbers or characters.
