Annotative block by chance?
Or are you jumping between metric and imperial scale DWG files?

I have been switching between drawings using metric and Imperial measures by changing the measurement variable from 1 to 0. When working on drawings in Imperial scale and I insert any of the hundreds of blocks I have created in Imperial measures they come into the drawing in a wacky scale. Very. very small. Why? What can I do to prevent this?

Just make sure the units of the drawings you are copying from and inserting into are correct. Use the units command to check. Or if you understand scaling turn units to unitless and annotative scaling off like we do and save yourself some hassles
