Importing Location & Block Plans (.DWG files) into an existing drawing

I am using Autocad LT 2019. I have purchased online a Location Plan, scale 1:1250 & a Block Plan, scale 1:500 - both are .DWG files & have a scale bar as part of each drawing. However, before I even attempt to incorporate them into an existing drawing, if I just print them as they are, individually, the plans are very faint & when I check the scale bar against a scale rule, they are not the same. Am I missing something? Should I be rescaling?

As they are both different scales, will this make a difference when I place them both onto the same, already created drawing? Thanks for your help.

Hi @braithwaitepaving,

I would expect the the scale rule and bar to be the same when printed if the drawing was created to scale, and you are plotting to scale. A couple things you can check:

  • Are you plotting from model space? Try setting up a plot in the Layout tab.
  • Are you windowing the view for plotting? Try Extents or Layout.
  • Do you have Fit to paper selected in the Plot Scale setting in the PLOT dialog? Try de-selecting it.

Plotting a layout in paperspace results in the the drawing not plotting to scale in AutoCAD

How new are you to AutoCAD? I simply ask because for the most part this tends to be the typical kind of work an AutoCAD user does all day long.

For more details on your lightly detailed post:
Is this a mm vs inches vs feet vs meters issue? Or do you not know for sure? Find out, or start sharing DWG files here.
And are you assuming everyone else uses the same LWEIGHT settings or plot style table settings for line weights as you do? Or better yet, what do you use for line weights, LWIGHT command or plot style table settings (and do you use CTB or STB)?.

let us know more details please.

Hi, thanks, I really appreciate your reply, however, as you have guessed I am completely new at this & therefore am not familiar with some of the terminology I may need to help me.
