Error 1325 Not A Valid Short File Name (Resolution not working)

Hello,

I have a customer that is hvaing some issues with an error upon starting Autocad LT 2013.

The error code is attached.

The error is 1325 "%username%" is not a valid short file name

I have followed the resolution steps found here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=2864028&linkID=9240617

They did not help resolve the issues.

I found the workaround listed here: http://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/msi-error-1325-username-is-not-a-valid-short-file-name-tip6686

This works, but I will need to create a batch script that will write these registry entries automatically, which my customer does NOT want to do... They just want it to work.

The only way I have found to resolve the issues is to create a script that copies the Local Admin registry entries to the currently logged in user.

This is a domain user without local administrator access to the machine.

They have 3 other users that are working with no issues.

Please help me get my customer back online.

Thank you,

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums!

Was the Program installed as an Administrator?

When the user first opened the AutoCAD LT Seat did they do so an Administrator?

Typically this needs ot be done for the first instance and activation of the program.

Hello,

The program was installed as the Local Admin.

The user is not allowed to have local admin privileges.

I had it working with the workaround listed when I left, but when he came in on Monday and run it it failed again.

We don't want to create batch script to copy the keys from local admin to current users.

Since it works with 3 other users... What is unique about the other three users at the same location?
Does the user log-in contain a period in the name? Or is it longer than 11 characters?
And if you create a new profile for the user does the problem go away?

As a general rule, AutoCAD must be run the first time with the user having local admin rights: after than it may be knocked down.

Dean,

I am not sure what is unique about the other user accounts compared to this one. They should all be setup the same in the back end.

The user does not have a period within the username.

I believe his username is only 10 characters.

I have not tried to re-create his profile, we were hoping to not have to do that.

We first ran the program with local admin rights.

After all was working again, we revoked the local admin rights for the user.

Please advise and thank you for the assistance.
