Volume by Sections?

I wish to create manual sections and have LDT calculate the volume between these sections and hopefully fill out a table. How would I go about this?

I have 2 surfaces modeled, existing and proposed, they are good surfaces. The proposed creek widening was created by daylighting to the exist surface. The creek has curves in it and varying side slopes(4:1 one side and 3:1 other side). I need the dirt work volume only within the creek boundary.

The commands under Civil Design/Cross Sections are not helping me, I don't think I should have to create a template when I already have a good proposed surface. The regular volume tools under terrain are not adequate since the site definition is based on a grid.

Thanks for any help.

you will need to create an alignment, creek centerline is a good place to put the alignment.

then, turn on multiple surfaces
cross section ---> surfaces ---> toggle multiple surfaces
then
cross section ---> existing ground ---> sample existing ground

then create your cross sections

im not sure about your situation, but i dont think a template will help you here as your areas will be different.

this may be a manual effort.
do a bpoly, create your polyline

(if distorted scales, say 1:20 horiz, 1:5 vert.)
divide vert scale by horiz and multiple by the polyline area. will get you your true area.

LDD has a area function

hope this helps

As per auzzies response, except use Surface Volume output\ Existing Ground. this allsows to get volumes between 2 exist surfaces. Need to be careful with the section limits to make sure the volume is calc'd where you want it.

Thanks Marv and aussie,

I'll have to do this the old fashioned way. I guess my proposed surface is way to complex and I have stymied the standard volume tools and myself. The tools seem to work great as long as your channel is symmetrical mine is way asymmetrical, so I think it will be easier to just bpoly and bust out the old calculator. Thanks again.

There is a routine in Road Design Tools , Calculate volumes from section
edits that will calculate volumes between og and user defined pline . Road
Design
Tools is part of the Road Tools suite of routine that enhances Civil/Design
for Road Designers.
