Too Much Data CONTOURS

Hydrographic Survey

used to perform hydro surveys of docks and shorelines using a ratheon
fathometer and GPS, scribing line and taking GPS shots simultaneously. Doing
this, I had control of where we took sounding ranges and how often depths
were taken and produced good smooth contours with some gaps in coverage, but
okay. Now we have a machine that takes a depth every 1 second along with
position and we just "bomb" the waterway with shots (thousands), create a
surface and set points on a grid and make contours for deliverable. The
contours generated from this seem too "jumpy" and not smooth. I think
because of too much data. Is there a way to smooth these out. I already have
the smoothing pegged out at 10 and do not want to use spline. I even tried
to change the elevations to the closest 0.5 in excel and reimport to see
what would happen and the same thing appears. Just curious of any options
out there?

Thanks,

Sbaumer, PLS

Sometimes I either flip, add or delete the tin lines that make surface contours look "jumpy" as you put it. Doesn't always work depending on the area and how many points you have but you can also delete points in the tin if need be.
