Preview and Plot takes too long

Sending a sheet to a plotter takes too long. I can not tell if it is Window's or AutoCAD's problem.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Well, that depends. Are you using a local system printer? Networked
printer? PC3 file?

Also, what is your drawing like? Simple lines and arcs with text, or
complex hatches and aerial photography?

What does "fully detailed" mean? If there is a lot of data to recreate
with the plot spool, then it will take a long time. I've seen one
24x36 sheet take over 3 hours to spool on a HP1055CM plotter that had a
lot of VERY DENSE hatch patterns on it (basically a line hatch pattern
dense enough to emulate a solid hatch).

Your problem could be the result of any number of things....plot file
size, network issues, driver issues, print server issues, plotter
RAM/HDD issues, PC3 file, etc. You're not giving us much information
to go on.

I apologize for not being very specific. Yes, I am printing a pc3 files. My drawings include base drawing, plan and profile with Xref, cross sections, drainage maps etc. Usually I print 11x17 and 24x36. Printers are HP Laser Jet 5000 and HP Design Jet 1050 CM. I don't consider the plot file size as very big. I have some hatch patterns but are not solid.

Thanks

Try this. In the printer properties, set your job to spool on the
computer first. If that doesn't work, then it could be an issue with
the printer(s) memory. Make sure they both have enough (we were
running 256 MB on our HP LJ 5000).

Could you email the drawing for review? I'll be in a class all day,
but may have some time to look at it during lunch.

Let's try another possible avenue, as well. You wouldn't happen to have
irregular shaped viewports, would you? Those will sometimes result in long
spool times.

Raster Design R3 has some issues as well. Do you have it installed on the
PC?

It's hard to remotely debug such a trouble, sir: there are too many possible reasons.

If you plot to a PDF file instead of printing on paper, how much does it take?
