Im a surveying student trying to learn this program at my school. How do
you set up the description keys to automatically put elevation, description,
point number, etc. into different layers? Im sure its simple, but Im new to
this, is it possible? Please help me. Thanks

hi jamie,

if you use the standard civil-point, you do have the point-subobjects all on
one layer and switch visibility by point-properties.
if you do like to have attributes on different layers, you do have to use a
point-style, that uses the softdesk-point-block, then you can switch layers
for every attribute.

Hi Jamie,

The need to put the point features on different layers is based on the
concept of using and AutoCAD block or text to display the data. The Point
Object supersedes that need by having direct control of its display.

The description key controls the layer the Point Object uses and also the
layer of an associated block where you use one. The process is quite
obvious if you use the [Points][Point Management][Description Key Manager]
command.

we have points that we download from a data collector device and they can be
inserted into our dwg.

these points are typically shot to 1 or 2 levels of precision and we want to
show that precision in our dwg as it reflects the level of accuracy of the
survey shot.

it appears ldd converts all the points in the dwg to the current point
precision setting of the dwg.

we don't want to spend time sorting out points to determine their precision
value.

any fast and painless ways to get around this problem?

Hi Alex.

The solution is to create groups for each type of shot, then create label
styles for each level of precision. Make the right style current and insert
the right group.

1st - can anyone tell me how to go back to the old softedesk 8 points??

2nd - when toggling off and on the point number, elevation, OR description
in the display properties, how do you keep the elevations, pnts, desc., from
re-setting? or in other words, how do you keep them from going back to what
they looked like after the first import? i grip the elevations around to
make them all legible, but when i turn off the elevation (in display
properties), and turn on descriptions, the elevations go back to where they
were the first time, unrotated and on top of each other, which is what i
DONT want.....

thanks a lot!

Set the "Softdesk Point Block" point label style current and make sure "Use
current point label style..." is on in Point Settings.

Make sure (under Label Settings) that "Update labels when object changes" is
toggled off. Of course doing so will not let you update lines/arcs or any
other label also.

Is there a way to use a "user defined" leader while inserting points into a
dwg in LDDr2?
Thanks
