You can manually place points at any time in LDD/LDC. Just remember that a surface has a hard time with points that are directly above each oter or totally verticle planes. It's a common practice to slightly offset a top point by a hundreth or so to get a "verticle" plane. Also, points are relient on what user UCS you are in, and "should" (usually) only be placed when in the World UCS.
