Layer Prefixes

Is there a "global" setting to append layer names? I know there is a
setting each for the profiles and alignments to have the alignment name
added to the default layer names. Is there a global setting for this
function or another I've missed? Both the alignment and profile layer
prefix boxes are empty yet the alignment name is added to new layers.

Thanks,
Shawn

So, there is no * in the "Layer prefix" text field and you are still getting
the alignment names attached to the layers?

I'd be interested to find out why that is happening to you too. I'll keep a
look out.

So you know of no other places, besides the two I mentioned, where this
setting can be made?

Shawn,

Just stabbing at straws here but try checking the settings through
Projects->Drawing Settings... and see if they are set there as well. If
they aren't, save the settings to a prototype and then import the prototype
settings and check them again.

Hi Brian,

The Drawing Settings dialog box does not provide access to any layer
settings. Surely you mean "Edit Drawing Setup"

Hi Laurie,

Nope. I mean Drawing Settings (at least in 2i). This will allow you to
edit all the LDD settings in the drawing (including layer prefixes for
alignments).

Hi Brian,

My answer was for R3 (R2004 is the same).

Once again we suffer from not having NGs based on specific product.

Hmmmmm.... Just looked in R3 and I don't fine Edit Drawing Setup. I see a
Drawing Setup and an Edit Drawing Settings. Which where you referring to?
The equivalent one I was referring to would be Edit Drawing Settings.

Hi Brian,

A confused typo. Obviously I meant it's in one of them and not the other.
:-)

As a background to this, I reported to Autodesk on a number of occasions
that the implications of the menu command names were confusing and I like to
think I influenced the changes between the software versions. It's still
inadequately discriminatory.

I'm glad they listen to someone because they still haven't implemented the
"balance the earthworks for me" button my boss wants.

This lisp routine was created by a former college of mine. It will add a prefix to all the layers within a drawing. The only draw back is that it adds the same prefix to ALL layers. The file is named "lyappend.lsp". It has been attached as a .txt file.
