HEC-RAS Import & Export

Can anyone provide sources/advice on how to import and export cross section
and analysis data between LDT/CIVIL Design 2004 and HEC-RAS?

The HEC-2 routines in Civil Design do not allow for bends in the cross
section sample lines. I have been contemplating projecting polylines to the
DTM to create 3D polylines and then using Map to create report queries of
the polylines which could be imported into a spreadsheet and edited to meet
the data input format requirements of HEC-RAS, but this is a lot of work
considering people are doing this regularly. There must be a simpler way.

OK Neil - I just used HEC-RAS 3.1.3 on a test of the Hydrology>HEC2
Output>HEC2-Multiple file I created as a test on my EG Surface.

I made sure that I used a polyline going in the opposite direction of flow.
Supplied both the Ground Elevation and the Flow cfs.

Went through without a hitch for me.

A couple of my 49 sections (50ft interval) could have been increased in
width, but the computation for both Steady/Unsteady Flow Simulation provided
the flow data that you would expect.

So I had another go with 100ft Left/Right widths, and this time started with
Critical Depth.

It took me about a half-hour on the 2nd time through.

Since I was doing this after work-hours I could spend the time necessary to
complete the edits, without being distracted by a Project's "needs".

Again - no issues at all.

Not near enough to the Verde River in the Lowlands around our area for the
current set of Projects. The "trial" streams haven't had any hair-pin turns
in them to produce those V-type sections for HEC-RAS to get agita over.

Notice I said "yet" in the primary sentence? 😉

I've noticed that there are a few "washes" along 260, where this condition
looks like a possibility also.

Time will tell.

Maybe since our topography is more conducive towards "narrow" channels, they
may not be as prevalent. We can then use less of a Left/Right dimension to
define the channel?

Hi Don, I don't doubt that the LDT HEC-2 functions will work under the right
conditions. It's the limitations that are the problem. We need to calibrate
our analysis project to match that of another engineer in order to do some
revisions in his calculations. (No need to go into why here). Thus we need
to match his sections which have bends in them as they should according to
the criteria for doing the analysis.

If i have 2 rivers (2 aligments). Can I export this 2 to hec ras ? How can I join (edit the junction on hec-ras) them ?
