Contours from Quad Map

What is the best way to create a surface from Contours on a Quad Map? Is
there a website that already has created DTM's?

I purchased a few quads of NJ from these guys very cheap. It came with
enough digital data (points & contours) to create decent surfaces of the
quads.

You will need some processing power & time since each quad was about 320,000
points.

I should add that you can use their program to output dwg & dxf files of the
quads (contours, roads, names, etc.) you purchase as well.

iampay,

I am not sure why you are wanting to use quads for any project that requires a surface. But be that as it may I would say that because of the in-accuracy issues and the large contour interval that you have with quad maps you could just digitize them into cad and then create the surface that way. You would have just as good a surface a lot cheaper.

And if you folks want "freebies" you can use this Website:
http://tinyurl.com/k3mbp

You'll just need to create a free Log-In account to the GeoCommunity site as
a step in this process. You will then have access to Digital Elevation
Models for downloads, along with the necessary TXT file for either the 10 or
30 Meter DEM file.

To properly process the downloads you will need one more Executable - see
attached.

There's a ReadMe in that Zip file to explain the process for you to use.

Sorry that you had to outlay cold, hard cash prior to this John. 😞

I've been using this site for a couple of years now.

Maybe I should have spoken up re. this site before this?

Pre-development stormwater runoff studies come to mind as a reason Carl.

That's my "usual" purpose for them.

That and "very" preliminary horizontal/vertical design - for the reasons
you've noted.
