adobe distiller not creating a pdf

This problem may be impossable to solve on this forum, but...

Using Autodesk 2004 just loaded onto a brand new computer (had to reset all plotter connections)

The Adobe distiller has sent out two files;  one is a .plt the second has no file extention.

When in the Layout tab and Plot is selected, the Plot Device "Name:" is "Adobe PDF.pc3, the "Plotter:" is "Adobe PDF Converter-Windows System Driver-by Autodesk, the "Where:" is File, the "Description:" is blank (nothing).  Near the bottom of this window is an area called "Plot to file" with the words "File name and path:"  in which the "..." option or browse box only allows for a .plt file to be created.  What's with that!

So, if the "properties" is opened, the "General" tab shows the "Plotter configuration file name:" is "Adobe PDF. pc3", the Driver Information area shows "System Driver" is "c:\program files\land desktop 2004\drv\gdiplot8.hdi", the "Version" is "1.1-8.0.16.86" the "Port" is "FILE", the "Windows Driver Files:"  are "ADREGP.DLL, 8,1,0,0" and "ADUIGP.DLL,8,1,0,0"

and "ADGELP.INI" and "PSCRIPT.NTF"  On the "Ports" tab, the "Plot to file" radio button is set. That's it on that tab.  The "Device and Document Settings" tab had "Custom Properties" highlighted, so when "Custom Properties..." is opened "Adobe PDF Settings" tab is set to "Standard", "None", "Prompt for Adobe PDF filename", "Letter", "View Adobe PDF results" is checked, "Add document information" is checked, "and "Ask to replace existing PDF file" is checked.

Are there any settings here that are a problem?  I don't see why there is no option to save as a .pdf in the drop down list on the "Plot Device" tab.  How can that be possible when the plotter is set to Adobe PDF.pc3?

Dose this new computer need a driver?  I don't have the authority to download a driver.

Any suggestions about training in this area would also be helpful. It seems to be hard to find appropriate training.(sorry about the poor spelling/typing).

Thanks for any help.
