2008 - Can't Add or Remove Menus

We just went from 2004 to 2008 and the method to add and remove menus is completely different. There are cui files instead of mnu files. The menuload command now only loads cui files it seems and doesn't add or remove menus. I've played around with customize interface dialog and I have to admit it is confusing. Autodesk out did themselves on this one. It seems they are taking after Microsoft and making new releases more difficult to use. Sorry for the rant. Anyway, I've managed to add a few civil menus to a custom workspace that started from land desktop complete. The problem is now I can't add or remove any menus from this workspace. I add or remove menus and click done and the workspace reloads but the menus don't change even though the workspace dialog has the changes. I have spent hours now searching the knowledge base and the discussion groups but since I don't know when the menus changed I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Any help for a frustrated user of a new version?

What does the Land desktop complete & civil Cui not have that you need?

Do you have the Work Space tool bar? If not load it up and reselect LDT
complete... may you need to reset.

Joe

I don't understand how you could clear the check box in the CUI editor and
not have changes applied? maybe its a SP1 issue? did you apply the recently
released Service Pac?

I haven't seen this in 2008 but I haven't worked in it much. If you make
your changes and then close the drawing are the menus still missing when you
open a new session of LDT?

Don't worry. Everyone felt the same way about the CUI when it was first
introduced. Now many (including me) find it is actually easier to use. I've
accomplished a few thing with it that I hadn't gotten done in the old menu
files. Keep trying and post your progress.

Rich,

Are you aware that you cannot modify the current/active workspace. In the
CUI editor, right-click on a workspace that you are not modifying & select
Set Current, then try to edit the workspace.

What I've found is that you can not modify the current workspace, change to a different workspace, go into the CUI and make the changes you want to the workspace and then save your changes, get out of the CUI and switch back to the workspace that you just modified.

Yes. I closed and reopened LDT and the new menus were still there. I also
never had a problem in 2006. The only Problem I sometimes had was that the
changes would not show until the next time the program was started.

Thanks DougK, that was it. Our internet connection went down or I would have posted this reply sooner. I can't update the workspace through customize interface when autosave workspace is on. I think the reload that happens when I press done triggers the autosave and overwrites the changes I just made. A minor bug but kind of funny now that I know what is happening. In order to change the workspace through custom interface you need to turn off autosave first then turn it back on after you make the changes. Thanks for the help.

I think so much of this depends on slight differences in each installation.
Hardware, other software, pathing, etc. I often seem to be lucky with things
like this. I was one of the few who used Wipeouts and TextMask happily while
others had numerous problems when using them.

Sorry this isn't working for you.

Hi Allen,

It's 24 max on startup. Once started you can display as many as you like.

One approach (for versions 2006 onwards) is to add a command to your
acad.lsp along the lines of:

(Command "Workspace" "C" "MyWorkspace")

I'm having the exact same problem and have tried the solution below by unchecking the autosave.
It is not working for me. I'm thinking that maybe it's my mouse, one of those new Logitech Laser mice. Someone else in my office has the same problem and the rest of the CAD folks here do not have this problem.
Please HELP!
