scale command not working

Im trying to reduce the size of a drawing object I made from a trace over an inserted raster reference image. I'm using the scale copmmand. I asks me to choose the boject I would like to scale, I do that. It then asks me to choose the base point. I do that and that's as far as I can go. The command seems to stop at that point. No request for a second poin, no reference etc. Please, please someone tell me why.

Hi,

Do you see "extremely small scale factor ignored" at the command prompt?
Have you tried to turn off running object snap(s) and use only temporary
snap overrides to pick base point?
