Project Manager - slow performance on network computers

We have a problem that cant work out what the issue is with ACAD LT for Mac 2015.

When using project manager on the network, substantial lag is experienced on the networked macs.

We three imacs in office, have two machines running ACADLT for MAc 2015, and one running ACAD 2011 for windows through parallels.

One mac used as server, and the .dst file lives there. other machines are wirelessly networked (strong network with no wireless problems)

- On this mac machine, there is no discerable lag in paperspace performance when using a .dst 

- On the windows machine, there is no discernable lag in paperspace performance when using the same .dst

- On either of the other mac machines when using ACAD LT for Mac 2015 there is this wierd lag, to the extent as to make it not usable, not just irritatingly slow.

(the lag shows itself in whether drawing an element, moving a viewport, or adding in text to attributable callouts - for example you type text, then wait, wait and then it shows up - so the commands are getting through but somethings screwing it up on the way!)

Attmepted fixes without result;

- reinstalled the application

- reinstalled the operating system

Have trialed creating a local .dst file on the machines with lag, and no lag when using a .dst locally.

So isnt project manager meant for collaboration, it would appear from our process or elimination  the problem could be how the macs talk to each in project manager.

Help, is there something we are doing wrong?

I have several questions.

1. OS version of Mac of two machines

2. Which type of network environment do you use. Is it AFP(can be used to access Mac only)

or SMB(can useD for Mac to Access both Mac and Windows)?

3. What is Server.app's version?

And for a test, just create a simple project which has 2~3 drawing files and see if you have the same result.

thanks for looking into this annoyance. here is my answers:

1. all machines run OSX 10.9.5 mavericks latest install

2. we use afp network.  smb is also enabled as we have one machine running parallels with autocad 2011, but not generally in use

3. server app 3.3.2 - v4 does not have the required functionality for our office

4. we have done various tests with smaller number of files in a project.  no difference  to performance there. on testing with different number of viewports on a paperspace page, this does affect performance lag, while even with one, it is unusable, noticable slower as more on page.

particular to note is that this problem does not occur when using the same .dst on the network on the windows machine (running through parallels), only on the LT for Mac

at present we are unable to use the collaboration facilities promised by project and we used previously with sheet sets due to this problem. this is a significant drag on our business when we thought we were upgrading to the latest and best...

Hey, could you try this?

1. Launch Console.app
2. Clean the History for Console.
3. Try to reproduce the defect.
4. See if there are any message leaved in Console.

I guess there should be some messages about the network transfer info.

Hello, we have a similar problem.

We are a small office of 5 imacs, 3 running AutoCAD LT 2013, connected to a Synology DS211+ running DSM 5.1

We used to connect to the Synology using AFP but we were unable to add layouts to the Batch Print or Project Manager so we switched to using SMB.

The worst affected machine is running AutoCAD LT 2013 G.55.M.305 on OS X Yosemite 10.10.3

Similarly to above, use of the Project Manager slows AutoCAD to such an extent that it is unusable.

Just had a really good example of the delay, navigating the drawing essentially impossible, even closing the Project Manager takes multiple attempts, sometimes when it even appears to re-open automatically after it has closed. The console log shows:

A second issue, which may be related, is that while working on a drawing it will suddenly close without warning. AutoCAD doesn't 'crash' exactly, the menus stay at the top of the screen and drop down but do not offer any usable options. The only way out is to Force Quit. Restarting gives the option of recovering files but the files recovered do not include the last few minutes of edits.

Can you provide more information? AutoCAD release? 2015, 2016? EL Captain?

Yes, we are using AutoCAD for Mac 2016. El Capitan 10.11.16. 

We aren't receiving error messages. But we are experiencing substantial lag when using the project manager on the network. 

When using a .dst file and layouts that are located on a local folder, we do not experience any problems. Yet, when we use a .dst and the corresponding layouts live on the server, then we basically cannot use it.  It takes about 1 min to even select a layout on the project manager.

I may need to log a defect for this specific issue. 

I will go ahead and attempt to recreate the issue again and I'll let you know what the defect number is.
