Major XREF sharing problem

We are currently working on Autocad LT 2012/2013 for Mac's, and are experiencing a problem with XREF's on a shared server.  Generally speaking, if Person 1 is working in a file (for example, a base plan file) that is referenced into a file that Person 2 is working in (e.g. interior elevation file), the plan xref will NOT display.  We have tried different combinations of overlay/attachment/full or relative path, but still encounter this problem.

Furthermore, the problem seems to be accentuated when there are multiple xref's in use.  For example, our base section file has all of our base plan files xref'd into it.  When a user (Person 3) tries to open this base section file while two or more of the base plan files are in use (by Persons 1 & 2), Person 3 will get the spinning wheel of death and be forced to force-quit out of Autocad.

PLEASE PLEASE help us resolve this issue, as it seriously affects our workflow.

Here are a few things you can try:

1) Make sure all XREF's are saved in the same file format. 2013 is a new file format and it could be hanging up on you if all files are not saved in that format yet.

2) It could be that the files have some minor corruption in them causing the problem. Whichever files are causing the hangup, go back and open them and run the AUDIT and PURGE commands, and then save them again.
