Layer window disappeared

The layer window is not visible although it shows the tick when I check the Window menu. Switching it on and off via the Window menu or by using cmd4 does not have any effect.

Tried to shut down AutoCad and also restarted the machine- nothing seems to bring it back.

I am on AutoCad LT 2013 for Mac.

Thanks for any comments!

Hi,

Have you tried "Reset Palettes" from Window menu?

No I haven't.

Will it erase my customised tool set?

Hi Ulrike,

I think it should not, but you can backup your customized ToolSet palette
before resetting.
You have to save in safe place all files with .CUI extension from
"~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Roaming/AutoCAD LT
Standalone 2013/.../.../Support/" folder. There should be four files. I
don't remember the exact name of folders after Roaming, but you should look
in it, and Support is last level.
Library folder is inside your home folder and it is hidden by default, in
order to open it in Finder select Go menu while pressing Option key on
keyboard, you will see it in Go menu.

Sorry for my lack of experience...but how do you save the customized toolset? I located the folder you mentioned

Library/Application Support/Autodesk/roaming/AutoCAD LT 2014 Standalone/R19.1/enu/support

That folder has 30 items inside, 4 of which are .cui files. Now what?

Thanks in advance

Hi Jim,

To backup your customizations of menu, Tool Sets palette and commands (macros) you need to copy .CUI files to the safe place.
You can later restore them on the same Mac for the same AutoCAD version.

Maxim,

So I want to copy the 4 .cui files that exists in the folder referenced
above, and paste them into a "safe" folder?

Yes. You need to save these four files.

OK, So I copied those 4 files. So when I reopen autocad, and the palettes
are scattered randomly again, I need to go to those 4 files I copied, and
copy them back into that support folder? Do I need to do that every time??

Hi Jay,

Just now I realized that we are speaking about different things.
When you asked "how do you save the customized toolset" I thought that was about tool sets palette and command customization.
But now I see that you have problem with saving the locations of palettes between AutoCAD sessions.
Am I right now?

If yes, than that's another story... And it is not related to the CUI files.
I need to ask you additional questions than:
Do you use single display configuration? Or you are using two displays?

I guess that's where it gets tricky...I primarily use 2 displays, the
laptop screen and an external monitor, but occasionally use cad in the
field with just the laptop. Is going back and forth screwing with the
settings?

Hi Jay,

AFAIK AutoCAD 2014 has problems with restoring palettes locations when you change display configuration.
All settings related to the position and size of palettes are stored in /Users/YOUR_USER_NAME/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/roaming/AutoCAD LT 2014 Standalone/R19.1/enu/Support/Profile.aws file.

Here is a discussion about similar problem:
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac-general/tool-bars-and-palette-locations/td-p/4318714/h...
It is about AC 2013, but the same could be applied to AC 2014.
