Jumpy and/or slow cursor

Cursor jumps all over the screen. Jumpy AND sluggish at the same time! Have endless trouble picking anything. Plus I end up clicking on the wrong things and then have no idea what I clicked on.

Everything was fine for several days after install of autocad.

My machine:

17" MacBook Pro with:

2.4GHz Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
OS 10.7.2

Nvidia 8400GT w/ 512MB RAM

AutoCAD for Mac 2012

mouse plugs in, works perfectly in all other programs. I have tried 3 other mice and the trackpad - no change.

It started mid-command for no apparent reason about two days after I installed autocad, and never stopped through many restarts of computer and reinstallations of autocad.

This has been a major problem on other wimdows machines I have used over the last 6 years also.

Occurs in all drawings, including a new blank one. Occurs when I am in a command and when I am not. The drawing I am working on is a 12' x 12' wooden deck - very simple - can't even get through the 2D drafting to have something to extrude into 3D. No xref's or blocks, only lines.

Turning off object snaps makes no difference. (Of course I need it on to do the drawings)

Grid snap is off.

Sometimes if I change to "conceptual" and then back to "wireframe", It will be ok for 30 sec to 5 min, but usually, there is no difference. I work in wireframe only.

I set SlectionCycling to 0 - ok for 30 sec, then worse than before.

I have restarted my computer dozens of times and reinstalled autocad about a dozen of times in the last 3 days - not even a temporary change.

The advice on the autodesk website refers to windows machines - I'm on a mac.

I have scoured the autodesk website and all others I can find. I have tried many people's fixes through various settings... nothing works.

Stop me from going to SketchUp... though it may be too late already.

You may have tried this stuff but you didn't specify what you had tried.

There was a performance hotfix released for 2012. Do you have this

These are all little things but could help

I have see dynamic ucs cause issues. Turn it off. You can find it in lower leftish corner. It has a little lighting bolt on it.

You could also try turning off hardware acceleration, press ok, exits cad, then go back in and turn it on. I've had hardware acceleration get messed up and cause slowdown, turning it off then on has fixed it more than once.

Turn off selection preview when no command is active. Options->selection tab->uncheck when no command is active.

Now I don't know mac at all but on a PC I would make sure I have a large enough paging file.

None of these things seem to apply to Mac. Thanks for trying, but I think I'll try a different program.

....or you try it in the forum that is for "AutoCAD on Mac" 😉 >>>here<<<

It's not so easy to know what happens on Mac as the differences are not just a few functions. ROLLOVERTIPS or SELECTIONPREVIEW woud be the first two things I look for, but also that may be different on Mac, I don't know that ... the Mac-forum may have more ideas.

Jumpy and slow cursor can be caused by Dynamic UCS being enabled (at least on the Windows version, I dont even know if it exists on the Mac version). Try toggling off DUCS at the bottom in the same area as OSNAP. Actually most of those commands can cause slow/jumpy cursors. Try toggling all of them off. Best of luck...

I have a solution to the jumpy cursor problem which began when I downloaded the Update2 in AutoCAD 2011.

First uninstall the Update and reinstall AutoCAD. You can do this in Control Panel, Hardware devices.

Next set Windows to Classic View (no themes) and set the Display Properties to Medium (16 bit).

Above all else, make sure the AutoCAD install matches Windows version, i,e. 32 bit or 64 bit - these must match.

Next start AutoCAD go to 3dCONFIG and make sure the driver for your video card is also 32 or 64 bit.

These all must match.

The following settings also should be checked:

ROLLOVERTIPS = 0  <1>

HPDLGMODE = 1 (NOT 0 OR 2)

HPQUICKPREVIEW = 0

SELECTIONPREVIEW = 0

SORTENTS = 0 <127>

DYNMODE = 0 <-2>

And with regard to hatching problems, I like to use the toolbars, turn off the RIBBON. This would be easier for

an operator if you have 2 monitors where the RIBBON can be un docked and dragged to the other monitor.

Also TURN OFF THE PROPERTIES PALLETTE!  P.S.. - The hatch icon can be dragged and put into toolbar group

using the "customize" command. Additionally use the ACD.ciux MENU and DO NOT MIGRATE any settings from

earlier releases.

FYI

Dynamic UCS did it for me. However I have turned a lot of ther stuff off like Dynamic Input, Tracking Vectors and such off too. Dynamic UCS was the one that finally did it.

Tricky problem for sure.
