Files from PC not working on MAC

I have AutoCAD 2013 for a MAC and have been sent various files from work that I am able to open, but once I try and do anything within that file my computer freezes and I get the "spinning colour wheel" I am able to open those files on a PC and work on them and the person who sent them to me said his colleague is able to open them on his MAC and they work just fine. I have tried opening other CAD files I have and they work just fine, its just these select few that were sent to me from him. Do you think its a problem with the files? Or is a problem with my computer? I have tried everything I can think of so maybe someone else has another idea for  me to try. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,
If you are able to open and edit other DWG files, than the problem is in files you received from the "person".
This could be everything - from additional data added with third parity applications in AutoCAD on OC (proxy objects) to large amount of Layer filters or a lot of Geometric constraints in DWG file.
Could you send one of the problem files to my email: mkanaev at yandex.ru ? I can try to investigate the problem.

Hi Jessica,

As I suspected the case is in excessive quantity of Layer Filters in this file.

You need to delete them during opening DWG.

Please, start AutoCAD and in new empty drawing set System variable LAYERFILTERALERT=3

Then try to open problem DWG file, you will see this alert:

Select "Delete all layer filters" and you will be able to edit file.

This is similar to what is happening on my PC now. Except that I have never used AutoCad for MAC. Everytime i try and open autocad, either a file i have been working on or just to open autocad. As soon as the Autocad exchange message comes up the program goes un responsive. Please help me. Ps i am using the 2012 Student version.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,
Which OS X version do you have on your Mac?
AutoCAD for Mac. 2012 is not compatible with Mavericks and Yosemite.
