DWG Viewer for Mac

Hi, one of our contractors is looking for a DWG viewer for his Mac. Anyone have any suggestions on which ones work the best or which ones to avoid?

Hi,

I have on my Mac:

1. AutoCAD WS - free in Mac App Store - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/autocad-ws/id454730552?mt=12

Requires Internet connection and Autodesk account to view DWG files, because it uploads them to the cloud before viewing. After uploading you can do a lot of things - "basic, intuitive set of viewing, editing, and markup tools to work on your designs...Plot your DWG files as a PDF or DWFx with full control over plot styles, paper sizes, layouts..."

Can open DWG format up to 2013

2. progeCAD Viewer DWG - free in Mac App Store - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/progecad-viewer-dwg/id468632219?mt=12

Work absolutely "off-line", fast enough, no markup tools, only:

- full support for Layers (hide/show through Layers palette)
- compatibility with Model and layout visualization
- visualization of 3D Wireframe and Shade controlled via palette
- DWG export in DXF
- support of AutoCAD 2010/2012 DWG files with no file-size limit

Crashes sometimes...

You can also try free DraftSight application (not only viewer Smiley Surprised)

Thanks for the reply. Forgive my ignorance but I've never worked with a Mac before. If I copy a DWG file onto a thumb drive, would he be able to plug it in and open the drawing using the progeCAD Viewer?

Yes, of course, without any troubles.

I have just installed Autocad WS on my Macbook Pro to view drawings, only to find that it doesn't currently support files larger than 15MB. Is there an alternative?

This link doesn't exist.

AutoCAD WS - free in Mac App Store - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/autocad-ws/id454730552?mt=12

Can you suggest if there is a different app.

Hi,

Yes, it has been removed from MAS in favor of another (WEB based application):

https://client.autocad360.com/loginpage/

That link you provided simply takes you back to the first page of this same topic, ie page 1 of 2.

And, as others have said, neither of the links is working regardless of browser; i tried all the 3 usual ones.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

Yes, you are right. Both applications I mentioned in my first were pulled from Mac App Store.
So you only can use
https://client.autocad360.com/#/createaccount.html
to view drawings using WEB browser (Autodesk solution)
Or try to use this software:
http://www.edrawingsviewer.com/ed/edrawings-viewer.htm
if you need free viewer.

I use to run Acad and Solidworks on my workstation. I used eDrawings viewer on my ipad to show others dwg. and SW files.

This program is free and is offered for Mac and Windows.

Good Luck

Opps, didn't see the post above.

Look for a freeware on the web called Draftsight: if you like it and need to do more with it, the Pro version is not on subscription.

That sounds awesome! However none of these applications are available in Mac Store for India. Is there any alternative to these please!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!
Hi @jasjeetkaur_81

All applications I mentioned 3 years ago were pulled from Mac App store, so now you have these alternatives:

- WEB based application - https://client.autocad360.com/loginpage/

and third parity applications:

- DraftSight - http://www.3ds.com/products-services/draftsight-cad-software/free-download/
- SolidWorks DWG viewer - http://www.edrawingsviewer.com/ed/download.htm

Or you can try one of the DWG viewers available now in MAS (not free)
