Direct distance entry not active on Mac help.

Hi

Just started learning Autocad on a Mac, I want to use dde a lot and thought it would just work by selecting line command then first point> Type in 5 then press enter and it would automatically draw a line 5units long in the direction I was pulling in. When I do this nothing happens. Please share any info or setting I may of needed to active. I am using fresh install of Autocad Mac 2013

Thanks

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!
Hi,
In order to be able to use direct distance entry for points in all commands that use pointer input you need to have system variable DYNPICOORDS=0 - pointer input uses relative format for coordinates.
You can set it in "Pointer Input Settings Dialog Box" (Select menu Tools -> Drafting Settings -> Dynamic Input tab -> Pointer input - should be Relative.

AFAIK the direct distance entry method is not available while you are using the temporary override keys for Ortho mode, object snap tracking, or polar tracking.
In all other cases it should work.
BTW: Which OS X do you have on your Mac?

Could you provide more details?

What do you mean by "distance tools"? Is it MEASUREGEOM command? Or DIST command? Or dimension commands?

And how them not working? Please, provide your steps.

Maxim

I've had this problem for months one day it just stopped working but it doesnt matter if it's a new drawing or an imported drawing I cant measure the length of any line... using any measuring tool in cad.  If i draw a line I can dype DIST and but the curser doesnt change it just stays the same and it wont let me pick a point to start it just clears the command box as if I never typed it.

Could you post Command line output when you call DIST or MEASUREGEOM command?

In my case it looks like:

Command: DIST
Specify first point: <Osnap on>
Specify second point or [Multiple points]:
Distance = 14.6519, Angle in XY Plane = 29, Angle from XY Plane = 0
Delta X = 12.8139, Delta Y = 7.1051, Delta Z = 0.0000
Command: *Cancel*
Command: MEA
MEASUREGEOM
Enter an option [Distance/Radius/Angle/ARea/Volume] <Distance>: D
Specify first point:
Specify second point or [Multiple points]:
Distance = 14.6519, Angle in XY Plane = 29, Angle from XY Plane = 0
Delta X = 12.8139, Delta Y = 7.1051, Delta Z = 0.0000
Enter an option [Distance/Radius/Angle/ARea/Volume/eXit] <Distance>: X
Command:
