autocad mac 2013 freezes and crashes when i plot

hi,

it used to be fine when it comes to plotting. i had been able to save files to pdf without any troubles.

but recently, like maybe two week ago, i just could not plot anymore.

whether it's preview as pdf, or save as pdf, neither would work for me.

and i haven't updated or changed anything on my mac.

i have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it still doesn't work.

does anyone know what is the issue here? would appreciate any help, thanks!!

Hi Karl,

So you start AutoCAD, draw a line, call PRINT (PLOT) command, hit OK in Print dialog and AutoCAD crashes. Is this correct?
Is your System still in the same condition as it was in post #14 (including System Printer)?
Save as PDF (from Print dialog) gives the same result (AutoCAD crashes)?

Hi Karl,

I think that the main issue is in yuor current System Printer.

Could you try to instal Gutenprint drivers from here:

http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

Then add new Printer (Plotter) to your System according to instructions you can find here:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-for-Mac/can-t-export-oversize-PDFs-Help/m-p/2825605#M924

Then set this printer as default,  start AutoCAD and try to save PDF from Print dialog.

Let me know the results.

Maxim

Thanks very much Maxim that seems to have worked as far as printing to pdfs which was my main concern. It still fails when trying to actually plot to my printer, but I can work around this easy enough.

Thanks again!

Hi Karl,,

Glad I can help you 🙂

Could you tell which driver you are using for your HP printer: from HP or build in Mac OS?
If it is HP driver, please include version, or better- post link to HP support, where you download the driver.

These are the drivers and firmware that I have installed on my printer. As far as I can tell the driver is still at v.1

I cannot reproduce the issue on my Mac machine.

I installed the Driver from the link above, then setup a printer as HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910 in System Preference(without really have the printer connected). Then tried to preview in PDF in AutoCAD(G055.M.108) on 10.8.4, everything seems fine. I tried on a Mac pro and a Macbook.

For anyone who still have the Plot issues, please provide the following info and send directly to me at wei.ma@autodesk.com.

1. If AutoCAD freeze without a Crash Report dialog shows, run Activity Monitor when ACAD hangs, select AutoCAD from the process list(it should be in red and says "no responding"), then click the Sample Process button on Activity Monitor, save the sample file, and send to me.

2. If AutoCAD crashes with a AutoCAD Error Report dialog shows, please send the report with the info like what printer you are using. You will be returned with a Report ID in the browser, please send the Report ID to me.

Thanks,
Wei
