Welcome to the community, @werkwerk,
I'm sorry to see that you've had so much trouble with AutoCAD for Mac. If there's something we can help you with I would like to encourage you to create a new post in this AutoCAD for Mac forum so that our specialists and expert users can offer assistance.
Hopefully we hear from you! Thanks!
Hey Werkwerk,
I think if we have more info on what type of setup you have, we might better help you.
1. What kind of computer are you using? How old is it?
2. What Mac system version are you using?
3. How much RAM do you have?
4. What Autodesk program and what version of this program are you using?
Let's start with these questions and maybe get further in depth later on.
Good Luck,
Don
Hi Team -
Yes I have tried it and overall I do like it.
I have been using AutoCad since 1998 on Windows. My last upgrade was 2008 and I felt that what I had was enough for my firm and the kind of drawings we produce - never needed 3D - we mainly do hand renderings or Adobe illustrator.
In a recent Windows update and upgrade to our office CPU's our AutoCad program stopped working ( something to do with 32 Bit vs 68 Bit or something like that) - on top of that Autodesk stopped issuing updates to 2008 - so we were stuck - only thing left to do was to upgrade.
The result is fantastic - Mac makes everything very easy. If AutoCad had a Mac version years ago - we would have went with it - but they did not.
It has taken me a bit of getting used to - not sure if it is due to Mac or Autocad 2014 - in someways it's a snap and other ways it's out of control - and don't get me started in the Magic Mouse - that alone is a trip and something that needs mastering somehow, someway.
But in generaI am very happy to have AutoCad and Mac together at last!
Best regards,
Mario -
Hi again -
OK I did the AUDIT and it did not fix the problem.
My next spet will be to delete any external files, such as PNG's, PDF's and JPG's and see it that does the trick.
I'll keep you posted.
It's funny I never ever had these problems when I was using AutoCad 2008 for Windows - I have lost so much production time over all of this. But, I'm not giving up - because Mac is great!
I have another question or thought.
I am using Mac Mini with Yosemiti and it only has 4 GB RAM - the specs said that was OK, but should I consider upping my RAM to 16GB?
Do you think that will help - more is always better when it comes to RAM - Ture or False?

Hi Maxim
The programme is shutting down randomly, doesnt make a difference what i am doing, tried different drawings and also creating a new drawing but the same problem keeps occuring. This happens in both 2014 and 2015, both are up to date. it has been happening since i have installed os x yosemite.
im working on a simple 2d line drawing, tried running audit but that did not make any difference.
is there not any fix or service pack available for the 2015 version yet?
Ive just noticed that the problem occurs exactly 10mins after opening Autocad and working on a drawing.
I thought it might be the autosave that happens every 10mins so i turned that off and tried again but the problem is still occuring!
Just to keep you up to date on this matter:
I removed the last PNG file that I inserted into the drawing and I'm pretty sure it solved the problem.
I think it might have been the fact that the file was large and I only have 8 GB's of Ram.
I think the next step is to increase Ram to 16 GB.
Thanks again for your help.

FYI. AutoDesk has informed all users that AutoCAD 2014 for MAC is not compatable with OSX Yosemite. They will release a service pack some weeks following. 2015 will work out of the box.
As to the Mac... 4Gb of RAM for Mavericks was bad enough as the system uses close to 3.5Gb itself. Use your Activity Monitor and the Memory tab to review your system load. I am certain you will find that Yosemite is even larger. If you can upgrade to 16Gb, you will be sitting at the lower end of resonable in my opinion for running AutoCAD in 2D, but I have fairly large files.
I totally agree about the need for extra ram. I have found that OSx10.9 uses considerably more than 10.8. However if you have 16 gb it seems to actually utilize it better than 8 gb. I am using 24 gb of ram and I am seriously considering maxing out at 32 gb. 16gb should be a minimum for AutoCAD on os 10.9.
Hello guys,
im using autocad mac 2015, i would like to know if is it possible when im moving the drawing section to move the toolbars/pallets at the same time, because i normaly work with 2 monitors....as well when i minimize the drawing section the toolbars dont minimize... perphaps an interface more similar with the windows version?
any ideas?
thanks
I'm using Acad 2015 for Mac on a MBA/i7/8Gb ram/256Gb ssd and Mac 10.10.
With a 2d drawing opened, the activity monitor shows usage of 174mb.
The 3d files that I have are SolidWorks, which I run with VMware Fusion.
SW runs quite good on this Mac, I previously used it on a Dell high end box.
thanks maxim_K
my only "problem" is that when i move the drawing area to another monitor i have to move also the toolbars...but thats okay, still old habits from windows.
thanks again...
Hi!
I am asking myself this question for quite some time now. I have worked with AutoCAD and microstation. I feel AutoCAD is more intuitive but I am missing one function that I really like in MircoStation:
Is it possible to turn the view of my window? If I have a floor plan and want to draw a cut through it, it would be great to turn my view to that very position so I can draw it side up. (Not for the layout but for the model!) I know you can turn the WCS but then I still have a problem with diagonals. Then I can turn the cursor cross but still don't have an orthogonal viewpoint to that line...
Is there any possibility (like in MicroStation) to turn cursor and view in a simple way parallel/orthogonal to my chosen line?
Thank you so much.
