AutoCAD for Mac 2012 Trial Download won't launch

I have tried several times to download the trial version onto a brand new Mac Pro running OS X Snow Leopard. Akami downloads, then I downloaded the AutoCAD trial, then I installed the trial version. When I click on the AutoCAD icon in the dock the splash window appears saying "loading" for a few seconds, then it closes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, rebooting the computer, all the usual tricks. And yes, language is set to English.

From what I can tell this is a problem for a lot of people but I have seen no explanation or suggestion other than an obscure suggesting about Journalling and reformatting the harddrive. Seems a bit excessive for a 30 day trial.

Hey Autodesk, if you want to sell to Mac users I suggest you give us some help!

Not sure really. But:

If you mean problem with FLEXnet Publisher - why not? Have a try - it doesn't take much time.

Hi, I have a problem in getting my Autocad 2012 to run on my mac with version OS X Lion.

I've been reading the previous posts, and tried the link with the FLEXnet publisher problem. However, it just doesn't work at all. When I launch the program, it just bounces on the dock, the loading screen comes up, and the program just ends.

Is there any other fix to this?

Console output? What you see there?

Have you tried to restart your Mac?

and

Looks like strings from Console log are incomplete, could you copy information little bit earlier than "LMU[2363]: 2363 with argument: lmuopen"?

Don't know what to say exactly, but I think the key words are:

com.autodesk.AutoCAD[474]): Exited with code: 255

and looks like it is licensing problem.

Obviously, we need to know the meaning of the "255" exiting code

Hi guys, I have been having a similar problem as talked about here. It is actually a full version of autocad 2012 which I am trying to get to work. It has apparently been installed successfully and everything, but just like a few of the other guys here, when I try to open it the logo just bounces in the dock for a while and ultimately fails to launch.

License manager crashes when you start AutoCAD. Look for "LMU_2011-10-19-182253_localhost.crash" file for some explanations (2011-10-19-182253 part may vary) in /Users/rosscameron/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ folder (or in Console.app in Crash reports section)

I've also attached the full crash log file to this reply. Is there any fix I can do to stop the liscence manager crashing the way it is? I apologise for my ignorance here, but looking at these logs is like a different language to me, but if you or anyone is able to point me in the right direction it would be great. Thanks again

I notice in your log files that it seems to be referring to Time Machine restore--did you just try to restore from AutoCAD or your computer from Time Machine.  If so, please try this:

  1. For Time Machine, by default Time Machine does not back-up the folder “/Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher” and therefore, when the user will perform back-up/restore with Time Machine, licensing will not work on their machines. In order to get it working, we need to suggest the users to edit the file “/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist” and remove the entry of FLEXnet Publisher from the file, save the edited copy on say desktop and now replace the original .plist file with the new edited .plist file from the desktop. Now, the back-up and restore of TimeMachine will start working on their machines.

(The line for FLEXnet Publisher folder in the plist file will look like: “/Volumes/<Name of the Backup Disk>^^*_&/Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher*_”) – this needs to be removed.

Hope this helps,

Kathy

HI,

Thanks for the reply.

I have found the FlexNet file in the .com.Apple.TimeMachine.plist, but I am unable to remove it because an error message appears telling me to unlock the file. When I click to unlock it, I get the error message "Could not add write permission to the file because you do not own it. Try modifying the permissions of the file in the Finder or Terminal."

I'm sorry to be a bit of a novice with this - are you able to suggest how I 'modify the permissions'?

Thanks for your last response - I really hope it works!!

Hi,

I´ve been usin de 2012 version of Autocad for Mac for a while now and it was working perfectly until today. Now i tray to launch autocad and the icon just bounces on the dock, de logging screen appears and then it just disappears adn the icon stops bouncing. I´ve tried unistalling, and installing, updatin my system ( macbook pro with OS LION), etc and nothing works.

I´ve been looking through forums and i´ve found out something about having adobe apps installed, i´ve have the whole adobe auite (CS5) illustrato, photoshop, etc.

i find in the forum, that this problam has already been solved and you send me to a a link (http://macacad.com/2010/11/25/autocad-for-mac-and-adobe-software/?srt=1330035752818&refurl=http%3A%2... where i find no info.

My system language is set to english.

I also seen the thing about changing FLEXnet folder, but i have no FLEXnet folder.

Please please help me.

thenks a lot.

You should be able to find the FLEXnet Folder  by looking for it in the Library folder in root partition of your HD:  Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/FLEXnet

Note: this is the root partition library, not your user library.

Additionally, you state that the program worked in the past but is not working now--did you have a crash just before it stopped working?  If so, try this link to see if this helps:

usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS18406763

The issues with Adobe and AutoCAD on the same computer should be fixed--so make sure you install the first service pack for 2012 and any from Adobe also.

Did you reinstall the product using Time Machine or did you back up your computer using Time Machine or Migration Assistant?  If you did use Time machine, then by default Time Machine does not back-up the folder “/Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher” and therefore, when the user will perform back-up/restore with Time Machine, licensing will not work on their machines. (The line for FLEXnet Publisher folder in the plist file will look like: “/Volumes/<Name of the Backup Disk>^^*_&/Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher*_”) – this needs to be removed.

Hopefully this will help you.
