3D Plotting PC vs Mac

Hi there,

I was wondering if there was an AutoCAD 2014 for Mac equivalent to putting 3D drawings into layout view. In regular AutoCAD 2014 for PC  under the "Layout" tab at the top there is a "Create View" section and from there if you select "Base" then create a front view, top view, and side view from and the lines will correspond to whether or not they should be solid or dashed. Is there the same option somewhere else in AutoCAD for Mac, or an option with a different name that does the same thing?

Thank you

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums!

There is no such feature in AC for Mac (VIEWBASE command and etc.)

You can try to use SOLVIEW - SOLDRAW command combination:

or

http://www.ncsu.edu/project/graphicscourse/gc/acadtut/tutor5ver14framed.html (from step 6)

Alternatively you can try FLATSHOT command.

Is there a way for Soldraw to not convert your model space drawing to 2D
lines? Currently when I use that command it will show my underlying 3d
objects, but in doing so makes them no longer 3D.

Thank you

But with VIEWBASE command in PC version you will get approximately the same - drawing view created with VIEWBASE command don't show real 3D model from Model space. Furthermore it is not viewport at all, but special AutoCAD object.
When you use SOLVIEW - SOLDRAW combination you get Viewport with 2D flat representation of your 3D model. If you want to be able to see 3D model in viewport created with SOLVIEW you need to unfreeze layer(s) on which your 3D objects are in Model space in this viewport via Layers palette.

I think the problem I'm having when I use solview and soldraw is that it is getting rid of the 3D object in my model space, not just converting the objects in my viewport. Is that just me doing something in the wrong order?

- Thanks

Have you checked all layers inside Viewport? Can you see 3D objects if you switch to Model space?
Can you post your drawing here?

I attached the drawing right before using the SOLDRAW command on the viewport. When doing the command it converts not only the view port to lines, but when I go back to model space the 3D object is gone.

Also, in AutoCAD for Windows when using Base View it will use dashed lines for objects that fall behind automatically and I can't get that to happen either.

Thank you

Hi,

I can not reproduce your issue.

In attached file you can see the results I got.

Here are screenshots about frozen and thawed layers in viewports (you can right-click on it and select "Open image" to see more details):

3D solids in model space are intact after solview - soldraw operation

Is the SOLDRAW process more than:

- Creating the Viewport with the 3D object in it.

- Entering the SOLDRAW command in the command line

- Selecting the viewport you are working with as the object

Because maybe I'm just doing it wrong. I attached a screen shot of my layers after using SOLDRAW on the Viewport.

Thanks so much!

Everything is correct in your drawing - all 3D solids are in place (if you switch to Model space and will change view with 3DORBIT command - you will see them.
About your screenshot: in order to see Layers settings inside viewport (where some of the layers could be frozen) you need to activate this viewport (double-click inside it). If you will do so, than you will see that layers "2x4 Framing" and "0.75 Plywood" with 3D Solids are frozen.

I am a newly qualified Interior Designer and have been thinking of moving over from PC to Mac - any advice as to which is the best platform to run AutoCAD for Interior Design off?

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

Please look at first at this comparison:

http://www.autodesk.com/products/autocad/compare/compare-platforms

If you are planning to use Rendering feature and you need third party applications, for example Visual LISP applications, than it is better to select PC version. AutoCAD for Mac still lacks some of essential features.
At the same time you can always use cross platform license to run AutoCAD on both Mac and PC.
