2 Finger Gesture Zooming Rather Than Panning

Hi

When using AutoCAD Mac on my Macbook Pro (2012 mid) sometimes my trackpad gesture of 2 finger panning switches to zoom. There doesn't seem to be anything obvious which is causing it, but it seems to happen when changing from different windows in AutoCAD. I can't find a fix other than restarting the program multiple times. I know that you cannot change the trackpad multi-touch gestures.

If anyone knows what causes this and how to fix it, that would be brilliant!

Thanks

Hi,

I can reproduce the issue when two-finger gesture for panning changes to zoom - this happens if I accidentally "pinch" with my fingers this cases to switch AutoCAD to zoom. But I don't need to restart AutoCAD to fix the issue: it is enough to remove the fingers from the trackpad and then put them back.
If I turn off "Zoom in or out / Pinch with two fingers" gesture in Scroll & Zoom section of Trackpad pane of Mac OS System preferences - the problem goes away.

Hi,

Yes, I do know that if you pinch with two fingers on the trackpad it zooms in and out. But this is not the case which is causing the issue as I am most definitely not pinching my fingers when using the trackpad (I tested the difference in the zooms when this issue was occuring, and they zoom at a different rate). I still require AutoCAD to regonise the pinch gesture on the trackpad as well, so turning off the "Zoom in or out / Pinch with two fingers" gesture in Scroll & Zoom of Preferences can't be the answer unfortunately. Unless toggling this setting on and off fixes the problem?

Thanks for you fast reply.

BTW, you can Zoom in AutoCAD not only with pinch, bu also with two fingers drag on Trackpad with Option (Alt) key pressed. Zoom in this case will be even faster than with pinch.

Let me try to explain the problem (i don't speak english very well):

When I drag two fingers zooom in/out happens.

If I press "alt" key with same action; then pan happens.

Is exactly the opposite than in your comment.

Any sugestion?

Thank you for yor time!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

Are you on Yosemite?
There is a defect in Yosemite which changes Trackpad behavior with zoom and pan in AutoCAD for Mac to opposite than it was before:

Thanks maxim_k; yes, I'm on Yosemite since today.

It was really strange, because Autocad was working fine and suddenly the "pan" stops working. I guess we have to wait for the update.

Thanks for your very quick answer.

Hi,
Have you tried to reset AutoCAD from Application tab of AutoCAD Preferences?

REPOST FROM ANOTHER DISCUSSION

I'm also having this problem after updating to Yosemite.
I assume no one's been able to fix it yet but you can also
AutoCad> Preferences> General and check the box that says something like "space bar hold to pan" or something like that.
It's easier than using the alt key since you can hold space bar and pan with just one finger. That way you only have yo use one hand instead of both.
I do hope this issue gets fixed soon though.

I find the pinch really un-user friendly! I used to be able to zoom but just using 2 fingers on the trackpad but all of a sudden I have to use the ALT and 2 fingers!! How do I change it so I dont have to use alt?

I use to just pan by holding down the space bar and moving my finger on the trackpad!!

Hope this helps.

OK, now it's 2020 and I'm having the same problem on AutoCAD LT 2020 for Mac, with Catalina. It's happened twice in the last month. Last time it suddenly happened then eventually fixed itself; but's happening right now and I can't find an answer. BTW, the two-finger pan is still working easily in other programs, but the Autocad is just not doing it.

There is usually no fix for an occasional hiccup except to try and figure out under what circumstances (in and out f the program) triggered it.

Dumb question: did you cold-restart your MAC yet https://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/cold-boot
and did that fix it?

Yeah, re-started twice. Third time was the charm. Kind of worrisome though. Lucky I wasn't on charrette!

I'm having the same issue with AutoCAD 2021 & Mac Big Sur on the new M1.  Anyone figure out a fix?

I am also having this problem with increasing frequency AutoCAD for Mac 2022-Big Sur-M1- Closing the program and restarting helped for awhile but now it can start out panning with the 2 finger movement and then switch to zooming.  Frustrating!
