Make line type

I'm working in A2K Map 4, Win2000 Professional....

I attempted to create a new linetype (with MKLTYPE), but get only "partial"
results.

I want to make a "barbed wire fence" linetype, one segment of which looks
like:

----x

I've tried making it with line objects (short line segments for the "-" and
2 lines crossing for the "x"). When the command it to "select objects", I
drag a box around all the objects and they are selected ("6 objects
selected").

When I draw with the linetype, the "x" objects do not show -- I get only a
dashed line.

----

I also tried to create the linetype using a text object:

----x

When I draw a line with this linetype, I get only a series of dots:

. . . . .

Any suggestions?

Thanks John

Why don't you just edit the acad.lin file and use something like "simplex.shx and do it that way instead. You won't have to go through all the trouble....

Any objects to be included in complex line types other than aligned line
segments must be defined in .shx files (either fonts or shapes). If you want
a custom X, and can't use one in an existing text file, then use MKShape to
define it as a shape, then use the resulting shape file in your linetype
definition. It can be a bit tricky, since size and orientation factors that
may be in the linetype definition. It's well covered in the Help files, and
you should be able to glean many good hints from studying the procedure
outlined along with the complex linetype definitions that are already
included in acad.lin.

Imake linetypes by copying the acad.lin file and editing the values that create
the linetypes, and renaming the file. Then you have to load the new linetypes.

I got what I needed.
