If a database was easy to control then everyone would be doing it. Databases even more important content is a tough topic to cover because Manufacturers are constantly discontinuing and creating new products. Autodesk needs to be involved with more manufacturers in a centralized location and interface parts as well as block with the Electrical software. If a manufacturer wants to improve their market share in the world of manufacturing then they should be taking the first step in getting there name in the software. That's called marketing. This does not cost them anything to be in the software and it exposes them to potential new customers. There is always a cost up front but once your in the cost goes way down. Think about the bigger picture and not the initial burden and things step into place. If change never cost anyone anything then everyone would be doing it. Change and adaptivity always cost money.
the problem with acade in europe is its lack of reputation which is a contributing factor to manafactures dis-intrested in getting involved with autodesk
autodesk have fundementally got it wrong with bundling up parts data with the install but wont admit it
eplan /wscad/see electrical which are 3 of the big players here in europe use the same method
a server link with live data being managed by the ecad companies they see the benefit of this type of relationship but autodesk in its dogma want to reinvent the wheel again and its hurting them
all they have to do is just sort it out but it seems rather than follow what has proven to be a sucessfully implemeation by its competitors it wants to stay in catch up mode

I may have been a bit vague on how the whole system works
What happens in the normal scheme of things you would use the parts database inside your application
But if you don’t have a particular part then you link to the server you can either do the following
1) Navigate to the component you want and download that single component
2) Download a complete range of supplier’s components
3) Build up a shopping cart of picked items from various ranges and suppliers
These then download and become part of your parts database
So the middle of nowhere doesn’t apply here
And you have the added advantage of new parts data being added in a single location
The two that I use on a regular basis puts on the main page what’s been added since i last logged in
the fundamental issue is all ACADE's competitors have gone down this road and their salesmen can quite rightly point out that ACADE is the only major product not doing this
The reasons behind this are varied and can be basically broken down into the following
1) Autodesk didn’t come up with the idea so it can’t be any good (anybody remembers bill gates comment that the internet won’t be of any use?)
2) Autodesk has the wrong attitude trying to engage with the component supplies
3) The component supplies see no benefit in getting involved with ACADE
