wire color / gage labels

Are the wire color/gage labels suppose to update?

Or do you need to re-insert them if you change the wire color/gage?

Best of my knowledge they have to be manually updated

They should automatically update if you use the AutoCAD Electrical commands
to change the layer or layer name etc. There are invisible xdata pointers
that relate the label to the wire so as long as they are intact the AcadE
commands will update the labels. Was there a particular workflow that you
were using that they were not updating with? What version of AcadE are you
using?

Hi Pat

I'm using AcadeE 2010sp1

What AcadE commands for layer control are you referring to, I usually use layer properties to control layers.

Well, it looks like I was partly wrong on this. The Rename Schematic Layers
command in AcadE does not update the wire color/gauge labels. There still
may be other reasons to use it rather than the AutoCAD layer manager to
rename layers though.

On the ribbon for renaming schematic layers -

Schematic tab Other Tools panel Drawing Properties drop-down Rename
Layers.

The Change/Convert Wire Type commnad does update the wire color/gauge
labels.

If you want to change wires from one layer to another I would use the
Change/Convert Wire Type.

Schematic tab Edit Wires/Wire Numbers panel Modify Wire Type drop-down
Change/Convert Wire Type.
