WD_M.dwg Question

The block is inserted as "invisible" upon drawing creation. Is there a way to make it "Visible"? Or is there a way to edit the fields in this block before drawing creation? There are also other blocks associated with this block. WD_PNLM.dwg, WD_MLRH.dwg, WD_MLRV.dwg & WD_MLRHX.dwg, WD_MLRVX.dwg. Im am very new at ACADE and just getting started. Basically we are trying to setup predetermined attributes for a specific job, and need to know whats the best way to accomplish this?

Thanks for replies in advance!

Use the ATTDISP command in AutoCAD, and set it to ON. Now ALL attributes are
visible. Set it back to NORMAL when you're done 🙂

Create your border with mapped attributes for the title block update. Save
it as DWG. Then insert this border into a blank drawing file (use acad.dwt
template). Now click drawing properties and you are editing the WD_M block.
Choose your preferences and save as a template. Each time you start a new
drawing, use this template and you will get your preferences by default.

Yet another suggestion - use Global Attribute Editing via script files to edit the attributes. Setup templates with appropriate settings that are stored in WD_M block attributes.

Type -ATTEDIT at the command line and work your way through the questions, save the responses in a text file with a .scr extension, run it through the SCRIPT command.

This may be a bit more work up-front, but at least it can be run unattended on multiple drawings using Project Wide Utilities - Run Script to change many drawings at once, maybe even put calls to pre-defined scripts on button flyouts for quick access.

The following example would change the value stored in the attribute with tag name MISC_LAY from MISC to OTHER.

-ATTEDIT

MISC_LAY
MISC
MISC
OTHER
