Vertical Blocks

How does AutoCADE know the block to choose when all you do is check the "Vertical" box in the Icon menu?

I thought that is why the naming convention was, so important and that AutoCADE simply replaced the "H" with a "V".

Yet that does not seem to be the case, for a few components.

Thanks.

AcadE looks at the orientation of the wires. If you are inserting the
component symbol before wires are inserted, as with point-to-point for
example, you can select the vertical button to force the vertical version of
the symbol.

I guess I am not understand what you said or you did not understand me. I know the check box forces the vertical position.

However, if you were creating your own components and only want to have one icon for a horizontal and vertical position how would you do it.

Do you just replace the H and the V and keep the rest of the name the same, like I orginally thought or is it something else?

I am having a hard time getting this to work for "Terminals" that we have. Does this tool not work for "Terminals"?

I am attaching the files.

Thanks.

So do you have to be in a .dwg in a project for that "Vertical" button to work?

I was testing stuff in just the Drawing1.dwg and then I moved to a drawing in a Project and now the Vertical force works, even if I was always working in AutoCAD: Electrical.

If you answer no other question please confirm or deny the above.

Although, am really interested to know just how AutoCAD knows the vertical block from the horizontal and if you cannot tell me (for proprietary reasons) then let me know that too.

Thanks.

You do not need to be in a drawing that is part of the active project. There
may have been some other reason it worked when you switched drawings. Maybe
there was already a version of the symbol on that drawing.

The symbol naming conventation is how AcadE knows if a symbol is Vertical or
Horizontal. If you use say the JIC menu, and pick a NO standard pushbutton,
the symbol name on the menu is HPB11.dwg. If you selected the Vertical check
box, it will look for a symbol called VPB11.dwg. If found it is inserted, if
not it will default back to HPB11.dwg I believe. So if you are creating a
symbol you might want to create the vertical version of it also, i.e. swap
the initial "H" in the symbol name with a "V"..
