Ok this is a great feature in the software almost exactly the same as the non-updating of symbols in a drawing when you modify them
PS when are you going to sort out that BUG it’s only been there about 4 years now
So you insert a parametric PLC card no problem
But hey ho you need to modify the PLC card in my case extra attributes so you go through the process of finding and editing the blocks you use to assemble the plc card and save them no problem
Now you insert a new PLC card into your existing PLC page and the same card details get created again so what’s happening
Well instead of taking the new blocks and inserting them into the drawing before the parametric plc function assembles the card
It uses any block definition with the same name already existing in the drawing
So here comes the excuse
That is the way Autocad underneath works but that’s in conflict with what you are actually trying to achieve
Which is create a new version of the PLC card using new block definitions
1) Solution a line of code that purges blocks before you create a PLC card
2)Re enable the feature when you insert a block with the same name Autocad asks whether you want to redefine that block definition
PS When is Autodesk going to fix the TSE bug where you have internal links and external links on multi-deck terminal block which slows your computer down to a dead stop?
ACADE is a vertical of the actual ACAD program. That means that it is a set of functions that are added onto the original program and make use of a lot of the underlying program. The developers of ACADE can not change how ACAD itself works as that would then affect all the different verticals that also use the underlying program.
That said, the developers have already thought of how to get around your problem with a special command.
This command will UPDATE or SWAP any block/s in ACADE.
Updating will change any EXISTING blocks for the new block in a dwg and transfer over the attribute data to the same attributes in the new block.
Swapping a block allows for individual Picked blocks, Drawing wide or Project wide blocks.
I'm not sure where this command is located on the ribbon as I turn that off and use toolbars instead. In the toolbars, the command is in the Conversion Tools toolbar and in the drop down menus, look in the Components->Component Miscellaneous for Swap/Update Block
