Title Block set up & Update using WD_TB method

I need step by step procedure for title block update using WD_TB method. I have tried a lot by

1. creating a base drawing, and yhen saving the drg as template. after that i have tried by exploding the block and also by not exploding it. In both the cases it doesnot works. Please let me know step by step procedure to work using this method or any link(video) for the same.

You are on the right track.

here is the basic step-by-step.

1. Draw frame and add text as required.

2. Add attributes for all desired items to be updated. Try to keep the names as short as possible.

3. SAVE as a dwg.

4. START a new BLANK dwg.

5. Insert the frame dwg as a block

6. Go to the Project tab and start the Title Block Setup Tool.

7. Map the various lines to the Project Wide attributes in the Title Block.

8. Click to Button to swap to the DWG Properties.

9. Map the various DWG properties to the DWG specific attributes.

10. When finished, exit the Title Block Setup.

11. Save the DWG as a template.

12. TEST it by setting up a dummy project, adding a new dwg and selecting the new template.

13. Edit the Project Descriptions by Right Clicking on the project name in the Project Manager.

14. Open the DWG Properties and fill in the DWG Information.

15. Update the the Title Block and check the result.

16. If you need to add a new attribute, open the basic DWG and go to step 2.

17. To edit the Mapping, go to step 6.

Let us know if you need more specific help.

Thanks a lot for providing me a step by step procedure.

I followed the steps exactly as suggested. but while performing step 6 the message is displayed as "No Attributes found on drawing for title block mapping".

I used Insert command from the Home tab to insert a block in step 5.

Please help.

Did you happen to explode the block?  It needs to be in the template drawing as a block.

Hi Add_123,

For the WD_TB style you simply add the Attribute "WD_TB" to the titleblock.

You do not use the Title block setup tool (That is for the WDL & WDT format).

(I guess you sort of can since it has the option but I find it never works)

The format is:

Attribute Name = Property / Line Description ;

Examples:

DWG# = DWGNAM; (DWGNAM is the drawing name Property)

TITLE#1 = LINE1;   (Line1 is line 1 from your Descriptions file [WDL])

TITLE`#2 = LINE2;  (Line2 is line 2 from your Descriptions file [WDL])

This method is nice snce you title block aways has the mapping required and is not based on your project.

It has a down side (unless it has been fixed...), the WD_TB attribute is limited to 255 characters.

I hope this helps,

James

The attributes must be nested one level.  The WD_TB attribute must be at the same level as the attributes it maps.  No title block attriutes shuld be visible at the level where you draw wires and insert symbols.  Only the attribute values of the title block attributes will appear, once you execute a Title Block Update.

Draw your border, add the attributes, and perform the title block setup.  Save as a .dwg file.  Start a new blank drawing using the acad.dwt template.  Insert your previously saved drawing/block into this blank drawing.  Now you can click Drawing Properties and setup your design rules.  You could also add specific wire types.  Also check the color and line types of the layers to be sure you are satisfied with how the drawings  created from this template will look.  Once you are satisfied, save this drawing as a template (.DWT) file.  Point to this template in the second field of the New Drawing dialog; the one you get when click New Drawing from the Project Manager.

Thanks once again.

But, not able to Insert  previously saved drawing/block into this blank drawing(which has acad template). how to insert previously saved drawing into the current drawing?

If i try to insert a block created, not able to locate it. what is the default path for block created using create command in Home tab?

Hi ADD_123,

When you use the "Create" Block Command it creates the Block only on that Drawing. (if you use insert on the origin drawing you can insert it, but only on that drawing)

You would need to use "WBlock" (write block) to push the block out into a directory of your choosing.

Wblock creates a brand new drawing with that block stored in it.

You will notice that when you author a Symbol it has options for "WBlock" and "Block".

The defualt is wblock and it creates seperate files for each symbol.

I hope this helps,

James

If you have mistakenly saved the block to a dwg instead of the drive, there is a method to copy it to the drive.

Select the block.

Type WBLOCK on the command line.

Check that the source option has Block selected and the correct block is displayed in the dropdown list.

Make sure that your filepath/name and the units are correct

Click OK.

You block is now saved on the drive in the file location you selected.

Check that it is indeed there and try to insert it into a different drawing.
