Tag Naming Conventions

Hello is there a way to change the default tag names of componnents?

For example the programs default tag name is MOT and I want MTR or for disconnect switches it is DS and I want DISC.  I realize that I can edit the componnent after its entered into the schematic, I am just wondering if its possible to change the dault name that that the automatic naming includes DISC and MTR rather than MOT and DS.  Thanks.

Hi Slavik11,

Yes this can be done, you need to add a special "secondary" file in order to change the names.

In this case you need  "WD_FAM.dat" (simply create a txt file then name it WD_FAM, andchange the extension to ".dat")

The WD_FAM.dat file is simple to setup.

Type in the current family code (%F value), comma, then the new %F value.

Here are some examples:

CR, CNTR

LT, LIGHT

MOT, MOTOR

DS, DISC

I hope this Helps,

James

Try this...

Create a WD_FAM.dat file with notepad to include the following overrides...

MOT,MTR

DS,DISC

Place this file in your C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical 2015\R20.0\enu\Support\ , directory or whenever you are mapping to.... Just make sure that the path is added to your Support File Search Path list in your OPTIONS.

This will change the default code to what you would like.

Hope this helps!
Omar

Hi OP21,

The WD-FAM.dat can be placed in the Project file folder as well to change the format of the project it is in.

If you do this, It's recommended that you Copy the project using the "Copy Project" tool to get the WD_FAM.dat file.

I hope this helps,

James
