Symbol builder

In Symbol Builder Attribute Editor palette, what is the function of Link Lines and Inserted Link Lines rollouts?

How these attributes are helpful while inserting / after inserting the symbol. The jpg is attached for reference.

Link lines are attributes that are used to show links between components, eg. parent and child contacts.

The format of the attribute is XnLINK, where n=2 means link up, n=1 means link to right, n=8 means link down and n=4 means link left.

I think it's for 3 phase component, for 3 phase motor circuit.

You can see it below, FC1.

When you paste 3 pole component, Electrical asks you "Build left or right?" So this is a Direction you can choose in the Attribute editor. And there is a link line too: line on the pucture that connect three part of FC.

Yes, it’s the same lines that are being used to link 3-phase components, but the XnLINK attributes are not there to «trigger» a 3- phase component to be built.

To have a 3-phase, or more, component to be built like that one use “Commands” set up in the Icon Menu Wizard.

Like eg.: (c:ace_multipole(LIST "VCB1Q21" "VCB21THI" "VCB21THI")  3 NIL 8+16) for a three phase MCCB

Thanks for the reply. But, still i am confused about its use. Does it mean rhat a symbol can have only one link line attribute? Because link to a component can be only on one direction?

But in the Attribute Editor, you can have no of link lines. What will be the significance of each link line.

Also, will it be visible only when you build child for any such parent symbol? Do you have to assign link lines for child also?

Better if it is explained with a small example.

You can insert multiple Link attributes.  They must be named properly.  See below:

X1LINK inserted on the righthand side of a symbol/block allows for link lines from the righthand side

X2LINK inserted on the top of a symbol/block allows for link lines from the top side

X4LINK inserted on the lefthand side of a symbol/block allows for link lines from the lefthand side

X8LINK inserted on the bottom of a symbol/block allows for link lines from the bottom side

Hint: Open the original Symbol Builder by typing WD_SYM_BUILD at the command prompt and clicking enter. Select the graphics you wish to create s symbol from and press Enter.  Choose Parent or Child under the Schematic Symbol category.  Click "Dashed" and snap to the place on your symbol where you wish to add a link attribute.  You will see a graphical menu that allows you to define which direction the dashed link line will be coming from.  This "wizard" names the attributes for you according to which direction you choose, so no worry about naming the attributes.
